As a Business Analyst at GFL Environmental Services, you will be the link between raw data and executive strategy. Operating at the intersection of Finance, IT, and Operations, you will move beyond static reporting to build the future of our analytical landscape.
- Data Storytelling: Translate complex datasets into clear, executive-level insights to answer critical business questions and influence decision-making.
- Project Management: Define project scope, manage timelines, and ensure deliverables align with executive expectations.
- Stakeholder Partnership: Serve as the primary liaison between business units and technical teams; facilitate workshops and interviews to extract high-level business goals and translate them into technical reality.
- Reporting Strategy: Build prototype reports and dashboards to meet immediate business needs, while collaborating with IT to transition these into robust, permanent enterprise solutions.
- Data Modeling & Architecture: Design and develop conceptual and logical data models that reflect business processes; translate raw business data into structured, scalable schemas to power long-term analytics.
- Change Management: Act as a facilitator for change, ensuring that new system requirements and process controls are adopted effectively across the organization.
- Predictive Analytics Integration: Identify opportunities to apply machine learning (regression, classification) to solve complex business problems, collaborating with technical teams to move models from prototype to production.
- Advanced Forecasting & Optimization: Utilize AWS-native forecasting tools (such as Amazon Forecast or SageMaker Canvas) to build time-series models for demand planning, resource allocation, and financial budgeting.
- Pipeline Collaboration: Work alongside Data Engineers to optimize data flow from S3 buckets into analytical layers, ensuring the business has real-time access to high-quality information.
- Education: University degree in Engineering, Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Statistical Foundation: Strong understanding of statistics, data aggregation techniques, and time-series analysis.
- Data Visualization: Professional experience with PowerBI, Tableau, or QuickSight.
- Data Manipulation: Proficiency in SQL or experience with AWS environments or Python for data analysis and automation is a plus
- Excel Reporting: Advanced skills with MS Excel, Google Sheets. VBA coding skills are a plus
- Analytical Rigor: Analytical mindset with the ability to define solutions to abstract problems, test solutions and apply critical thinking
- Flexibility: Team player that readily adapts to rapid changes in priorities and assignments
- Business Acumen: Strong business acumen and the ability to build trusted relationships with business leaders
- Reporting: Familiarity with Cognos Analytics or large-scale ERP systems is a plus
- Cloud Platform Proficiency: Direct experience working within an AWS-based data stack. Familiarity with querying data in S3 and using AWS Glue for basic ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes is a plus
