We’re looking for a proven professional to help lead our Utilities Department as our next Assistant Director. This role is ideal for a seasoned leader who thrives in a fast-paced, public service-driven environment and is ready to shape the future of water infrastructure and sustainability for a vibrant, growing city.
About The Role
Reporting directly to the Utilities Director, the Assistant Director helps oversee daily operations, long-range planning, and project execution for the City’s Engineering, Field Operations, and Utility Support divisions. You’ll manage people, processes, budgets, and capital programs with a laser focus on compliance, efficiency, and service excellence.
Key Focus Areas Include
- Leading operations across treatment plants, distribution systems, and lift stations
- Guiding capital project planning and execution
- Supporting emergency management and infrastructure resiliency initiatives
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
- Driving innovation and continuous improvement across all areas of utility services
- Coaching and mentoring managers, supervisors, and technical staff
- Bachelor's Degree in civil, mechanical or the environmental engineering field, Master's degree is preferred
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida
- A strategic leader with experience in municipal utilities, engineering, or operations management
- Expertise in Florida environmental and utility regulations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in cross-departmental collaboration
- Someone who leads with integrity, accountability, and a service-first mindset

Requirements EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional level experience involving the management of a large-scale public utilities division(s) including responsibility for water and wastewater transmission, collection and treatment systems
- Incumbent must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license prior to hire.
