Your Role as Director of Utility Operations

As the Director of Utility Operations, you will lead the strategic and operational oversight of our utility and power distribution projects, driving excellence across all phases of project delivery. You will spearhead a high-performing team, foster strong client relationships, and ensure alignment with Caliber’s mission of delivering innovative, high-quality solutions. Your key responsibilities include:

Strategic Leadership:

Develop and execute a comprehensive operational strategy for utility projects, aligning with organizational goals and industry trends to drive growth and efficiency.

Project Portfolio Oversight:

Oversee a portfolio of complex, high-budget projects from initiation to close-out, ensuring seamless integration of planning, environmental assessments, permitting, engineering, procurement, construction management, and final delivery.

Team Leadership:

Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of project managers, engineers, and support staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Client Relationship Management:

Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key clients, utilities, and stakeholders, serving as the primary point of contact to ensure client satisfaction and address escalated issues promptly.

Operational Excellence:

Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget while adhering to the highest quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Risk Management:

Proactively identify and mitigate risks, leveraging data-driven insights to resolve challenges and capitalize on opportunities for operational improvement.

Innovation and Process Improvement:

Champion the adoption of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and innovative processes to enhance project delivery and operational efficiency.

Stakeholder Engagement:

Lead high-level project reviews with internal teams, clients, and external partners, presenting progress, challenges, and strategic solutions to ensure alignment and transparency.

Proposal Development:

Oversee the preparation and review of proposals, contracts, and cost estimates, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment with client needs.


The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a visionary leader with a proven track record in utility operations and project management, capable of driving strategic initiatives and delivering exceptional results. As the ideal candidate, you will:

- Possess extensive experience in leading utility or power distribution operations, with a deep understanding of the industry’s technical, regulatory, and operational landscape.

- Demonstrate strategic leadership, with the ability to align operational goals with organizational objectives and drive long-term growth.

- Exhibit exceptional client-facing skills, building trust and fostering long-term partnerships with utilities, clients, and stakeholders.

- Excel in managing complex, high-stakes projects, with a demonstrated ability to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously while maintaining a focus on quality and efficiency.

- Lead with a growth mindset, continuously seeking opportunities to innovate, improve processes, and enhance team performance.

- Communicate effectively with diverse audiences, from technical teams to executive stakeholders, with clarity and professionalism.

- Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, balancing strategic oversight with hands-on problem-solving.


Qualifications

- Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; an advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MS in Engineering) is highly preferred.

- 10+ years of progressive experience in utility operations, project management, or power distribution, with at least 5 years in a leadership or director-level role.

- Proven track record of managing large-scale, high-budget projects, with expertise in budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management.

- Advanced proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and operational analytics tools.

- Strong knowledge of utility industry regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements.

- Ability to travel to project sites as needed.


Preferred Experience

- Extensive experience with utilities, specifically in the power distribution sector.

- Professional certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Professional Engineer (PE), or equivalent.

- Demonstrated success in implementing innovative technologies or processes in utility operations.

- Experience leading cross-functional teams in a startup or high-growth environment.
