JOB SUMMARY
The Engineering & Operations Director is responsible for directing all aspects of the District's Engineering and Operations departments by providing expert technical guidance for department managers, superintendents and operational initiatives related to engineering and operations activities and projects. This position reports directly to the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for fostering a positive safety culture and ensuring effective coordination among and between employees and departments.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Alignment: Partners with the General Manager/CEO and Management Leadership Team to execute the strategic direction, long-term goals, initiatives, priorities, and operating plan.
Leadership: Accountable for creating a department environment and culture that focuses on fulfilling the District's mission, vision, and values. Work to attract, develop, and retain talented, diverse individuals. Develop a succession plan with supportive mentoring, cross-training opportunities, and development programs for department staff.
Management: Motivate, evaluate, and mentor department staff. Provide training and professional development opportunities. Implement performance improvement plans and/or termination procedures as needed. Continually cultivate the positive culture of the District with department staff. Monitor and assess staff workload. Maintain a strong, safety centric department culture.
Conduct: Model and drive a culture of accountability and discipline to attain and sustain department performance. Set the standard of professional behavior, cooperation, community service and quality of work. Understand and follow expectations regarding appropriate dress, attendance, punctuality, schedules, unscheduled time off, and the acceptable use of District time, equipment, and resources.
Annual Budget: Direct the administration of department(s) annual budget to ensure maximum utilization of resources and optimum financial positioning for the District. Prudently manage department(s) resources, address variances in a timely manner, ensure budget is followed and within established budget guidelines.
Board of Commissioners: Responsible for keeping the Board of Commissioners apprised of engineering and operations departments efforts and for recommendations on matters requiring Commission action, under the direction of the General Manager/CEO. Attend regular and special meetings of the Commission each month.
Representation and Meeting Attendance: Represents the District at meetings, conferences, participates in collective bargaining agreement negotiations, and other events, sponsored by members of the public power community, local service organizations and other entities, as deemed appropriate.
Succession of Authority: In the absence of the General Manager/CEO and Assistant General Manager may be called upon to assume the daily duties o
