About This Job

AWC Indeed is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support our growing finance team in Houston, TX. This role is ideal for a seasoned accounting professional who enjoys being hands-on with day-to-day transactions while also contributing to higher-level financial oversight and strategic initiatives. As a key member of a lean and agile team, the Assistant Controller must be comfortable wearing multiple hats, adapting quickly to change, and thriving in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities:

•

Support the CFO in managing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department.

•

Actively participate in daily accounting functions, including journal entries, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.

•

Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

•

Lead and review monthly close processes, including reconciliations and variance analysis.

•

Manage intercompany transactions and ensure proper consolidation across multiple entities.

•

Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls and accounting policies.

•

Coordinate with external auditors and prepare audit schedules and documentation.

•

Provide financial analysis and insights to support business decisions and strategic planning.

•

Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

•

Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

•

Adapt to changes in systems, processes, and organizational structure as the company grows.

•

Stay informed of changes in accounting regulations and ensure compliance across the organization.

•

Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by the CFO.

Qualifications:

•

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

•

Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.

•

Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.

•

Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or oil & gas is a plus.

•

Proficiency in accounting systems such as NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle.

•

Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.

•

Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

•

Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

•

Willingness to be hands-on and involved in transactional accounting as needed.
