We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team as Apprentice Power System Electricians. This role involves supporting the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power systems and equipment. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Journeyperson Power System Electricians, gaining hands-on experience and technical knowledge in a dynamic and supportive environment.
The PSE apprenticeship is a 4-year program to become a Journeyperson Power System Electrician. However, graduates of the required Electrical Engineering Technology Program will receive credit towards the apprenticeship, allowing them to complete the program in an accelerated 3-year timeframe. Apprentices will gain exposure in construction, commissioning, maintenance, and the protection and control areas of high voltage electrical equipment. Apprentice Power Systems Electricians at ENMAX will have the opportunity to work in many challenging areas.
Major Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of a Journeyperson PSE, Apprentices will;
•Adhere to the Province of Alberta, ENMAX Corporation, A.E.U.C. (Alberta Electrical Utility Code) and Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations.
•Assist in Installation, Maintenance, and Repair: Work under the supervision of Journeyperson Power System Electricians to install, maintain, and repair electrical power systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear.
•Perform Routine Inspections and Testing: Conduct routine inspections and testing of electrical equipment to ensure proper operation and safety, learning to identify and troubleshoot issues.
•Support Commissioning and Decommissioning: Aid in the commissioning and decommissioning of electrical systems and equipment, gaining hands-on experience in these critical processes.
•Interpret and Follow Technical Documents: Learn to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals, applying this knowledge to real-world tasks.
•Adhere to Safety Protocols: Follow all safety protocols and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and your team members. This includes understanding and complying with the ENMAX standards and Policies, Alberta Electrical Utility Code and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
•Participate in Training Programs: Engage in training and development programs designed to enhance your technical skills and knowledge, preparing you for future roles as a Journeyperson.
•Collaborate with Team Members: Work effectively with team members and other departments contributing to a positive work. environment.
•Care for Equipment and Work Sites: Ensure proper care and use of vehicles, equipment, and work sites, maintaining a high standard of organization and cleanliness.
•Learn and Apply Protection and Control Schemes: Gain exposure to various protection and control schemes, including microprocessor relaying and remote terminal units (SCADA), and apply this knowledge in practical settings.
•Work in Diverse Environments: Experience working in different environments, such as high voltage substations and the extensive downtown network distribution system, performing tasks like maintenance, switching, troubleshooting, and cable pulling.
Qualifications & Experience:
•Must meet ENMAX Corporation’s requirements as to qualifications and must be qualified under the Alberta Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Education Act with respect to the related electrical trade.
•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from NAIT or SAIT. Candidates will be required to provide a copy of their Diploma.
•Basic understanding of electrical theory and principles.
•Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
•Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
•Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
•Commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.
•Valid class 5 driver's license in good standing. Candidates will be required to provide a copy of a current drivers abstract.

Salary: As outlined in the IBEW Collective Agreement (based on 2024 rates):
•1st year apprentice – 60% of Journeyperson rate ($37.42 per hour)
•2nd year apprentice – 65% of Journeyperson rate ($40.54 per hour)
•3rd year apprentice – 75% of Journeyperson rate ($46.77 per hour)
•4th year apprentice – 85% of Journeyperson rate ($53.01 per hour)
Journeyperson Rate – $62.36 per hour based on 2024 rates
Shift: Regular Days: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Shift may be changed to meet operational needs
Location: South Service Centre at 8820 – 52 Street SE, Calgary, AB
