+ WHAT THE OPPORTUNITY IS
The Apprentice Linesperson will have to be a minimum 2nd year apprentice up to Journeyperson Powerline Technician.
Festival Hydro is currently seeking a 2nd year apprentice up to Journeyperson Linesperson. You will work with a crew responsible for the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution systems. Responsibilities will be aligned to the trainee’s experience level, and duties may include assisting in capital rebuild projects, troubleshooting repairs and restoring system outages. The apprentice will work towards position objectives at ever-increasing levels of responsibility relative to training and experience.
The successful candidate must be enrolled and working towards completing the MEARIE Powerline Technician certification program by satisfying the hours and training requirements for certification. Once certified, the incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and construction of overhead and underground distribution lines. Candidates will be required to comply and be familiar with Company work practices and standards, operating rules, and regulations, as well as all pertinent OHSA regulations. This is a full-time unionized position.
+ WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Perform in a safe and efficient manner all construction and maintenance work related to overhead and underground power distribution systems operating at voltage levels up to and including 27,600
- Perform in a safe and efficient manner all construction and maintenance work related to overhead and underground power distribution systems operating at voltage levels up to and including 27,600 volts phase to phase
- Work in compliance with all safe work practices, rules and regulations as set out by Festival Hydro Inc., the MOL, ESA and IHSA among others
- Operate in a safe and efficient manner all machinery, equipment and tools used in the performance of the work. This includes but is not limited to: various aerial devices and radial boom derricks, a variety of power tools, chain saws, as well as a variety of hand tools
- Neatly and accurately complete all required documentation
- Be an active and contributing member of a team environment
- Other duties as assigned- Demonstrates superior health, safety and environmental responsibility
- Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma - OSSGD or equivalent
- Successfully enrolled in a minimum of Level 2 Powerline Technician apprenticeship program
- Willingness and ability to successfully complete Level 3 & 4 of the MEARIE Powerline Technician Program
- Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Drivers’ License with clean drivers’ abstract; minimum class DZ
- Possess and maintain a level of physical fitness essential to do the work, including the ability to climb poles and structures and work confidently at heights, and the willingness and ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
- Excellent verbal and written English language communication skills with above average computer knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, single line diagrams along with verbal and written work instructions
- Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills, a good work ethic with a positive approach to work and coworkers; energetic and motivated with an excellent attendance record
- Willingness and ability to eventually perform regular emergency call-out and on call duties, and work under emergency conditions, including the ability to respond from your primary residence to a call-out and be on the work site within one hour of receiving the call
- Demonstrated working knowledge of pertinent industry regulations and rules, policies and procedures, as well as industry best practices such as the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Electrical Utility Safety Rules, Ontario Regulation 22/04, Ministry of Transportation Book 7 and Utility Work Protection Code

The current hourly wage range for this position is:
- Apprentice Powerline Technician (Start to Level 4): $29.54 to $48.80 per hour
- Journeyperson Powerline Technician: $51.37 per hour (top rate)
