Great Bear Project

In March 2022 Kinross acquired Great Bear Resources and its flagship Great Bear project (GBR), located near Red Lake, Ontario. The Great Bear property is a greenfield, large-scale deposit with the potential for significant open pit and underground operations. In 2025, the project has moved into the detailed engineering and major equipment procurement phase. The Preliminary Economic Assessment released in September 2024 indicated a total initial project capital of $1.4B.

Purpose of Role

The Analyst Intern will support current business needs, which may vary over the course of the internship. A successful intern should be flexible and eager to take on new and different tasks to support the business and expand their learning opportunities. The following is a list of areas where the Great Bear Project’s Procurement department commonly needs support. The Analyst Intern will be a part of the Great Bear Procurement group based in Toronto.

Job Responsibilities

- Manage GBR Procurement Inbox, being first point of contact for potential bidders, register all potential bidders in GBR Vendor Database.

- Arrange discovery meetings with potential vendors in person and online.

- Support the commercial and procurement team with commercial evaluations, bidders lists’ creation, invoicing, creating and updating templates, ad hoc cost analysis and various other requests as they arise.

- Participate in the development of communication materials to share progress and challenges with site and corporate management as required.

- Participate in local mining expos, representing GBR procurement team and meeting with potential vendors.

- Perform internal and external market research and benchmarking exercises to validate the reasonability of the assumptions.

- Perform sourcing analysis, market survey and contractor pre-qualification, including research and qualification of prospective suppliers by evaluating products, services, and performance according to business requirements.

- Support low-value procurement and contracts process, including contracts change orders and closeouts.

- Support the development of business cases for investment decisions, including preparation and/or validation of analysis to ensure accuracy.

- Collect and analyze data, summarizing findings in a structured format.

- Ability to travel to site to support site procurement and construction teams.

- Work collaboratively with site, regional and corporate teams.

- Think creatively, thinking with a solution-oriented mindset on how to add value to the business case.

- Conduct their activities in accordance with the highest ethical standards and Kinross’ policies and procedures and reinforce procurement policies and processes with the team.

- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the team and vendors.

- Perform other duties to support procurement activities as assigned and required.


Minimum Requirements

- 2nd or 3rd year Business School student in any commercial background.

- Strong analytical capabilities and experience in Excel.

- Strong communication skills, both written and oral; experience in PowerPoint is an asset.

- Excellent attention to detail.

- Proven ability to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

- Team player with an ability to work effectively in a team setting, as well as independently.

- Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task.
