AGIle, Developmental Intern

NYPA's AGILe lab is an advanced testing facility that models and studies new technologies including renewable energies and inverter-based resources (IBR) which are crucial technologies for NYPA to achieve its VISION2030 goals. AGILe primarily helps NYPA's VISION2030 with the Digitization pillar by incubating and driving development and testing of emerging technologies to meet the needs of the organization and decarbonized decentralized grid.

We require a summer intern that will assist in the development, verification, and validation of power grid and communication models using real-time digital simulation equipment in AGILe lab. This person will also assist in the creation and maintenance of technical reports, simulation files and results, codes with appropriate version control for experiments/studies conducted in the AGILe lab. The intern is primarily expected to support the development of grid models suitable for co-simulation of large-scale power systems in EMT and Phasor domain. This work will require partitioning large-scale power system models into several sub-systems that can be co-simulated in real-time simulation platforms. The intern will take the initiative to identify opportunities and find creative solutions to support the development and implementation of various ongoing projects at the AGILe lab.

A good working knowledge of power system modeling and simulation software such as RSCAD, RT-LAB, EMTP, PSSE, ASPEN is a must. Familiarity with the MATLAB or Python languages for aiding in modeling, simulation, and data analysis is a big plus.

Our paid 10-week Summer Developmental Internship program runs from June 2 - August 7, 2026. As an Intern, you will receive professional development, on-the job experience in the energy industry, exposure to executives, and networking opportunities to help build a solid foundation for your future career.

Responsibilities

- Participate in department-specific projects, analysis, research methods and learn project management skills

- Support team in developing business solutions that contribute to NYPA’s VISION2030 strategic goals

- Research industry trends and emerging technologies to contribute to the continuous improvement of our programs

- Other projects as assigned; will vary based on focus area

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task with competing priorities

- Ability to work both independently and collaborate as part of a team

- Provide positive customer service for internal and external stakeholders

Education, Experience and Certifications

Enrollment in an associate’s, undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university is required. Recent graduates are not eligible for our Developmental Internship program.
