As the Advisor,


Environment

, you are playing a critical role in supporting EPCOR Distribution and Transmission Inc. (EDTI) by delivering strategic environmental planning and operational excellence. You will


be providing

expert environmental support to Field Operations, Regulatory, Engineering, Assets, and Project teams. Your work will ensure compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal environmental regulations while advancing EPCOR’s commitment to environmental stewardship.


In this role, you are responsible for managing and executing a wide range of environmental responsibilities. These include conducting environmental assessments and studies, preparing regulatory permit and approval applications, and overseeing environmental construction monitoring and risk assessments. You will also be preparing technical documentation, delivering inspections, and leading education and training initiatives across the organization.


This is a high-impact position suited for a collaborative and technically skilled environmental professional who thrives in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment and is passionate about making a meaningful contribution to sustainable infrastructure development.

will have the following key accountabilities (but are not limited to these):



Leading Environmental Compliance and Risk Mitigation

Developing, implementing, and continuously improving environmental processes and practices to ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Supporting risk mitigation through technical expertise, field presence, and construction monitoring.



Overseeing Environmental Programs and Systems

Creating, implementing, and assessing environmental programs and systems (e.g., Incident Management, permitting and approvals,


contaminated sites, remediation,

wildlife monitoring, emergency response). Managing escalations and resolving issues effectively.



Interpreting Regulations and Providing Strategic Guidance

Monitoring, interpreting, and communicating regulatory changes and industry best practices. Providing subject matter expertise to support decision-making and drive continuous improvement of environmental policies, programs, and systems.



Supporting Projects and Environmental Submissions

Providing environmental expertise and support for infrastructure-related projects, including expansions, acquisitions, divestitures, decommissioning, and abandonment. Preparing and reviewing environmental applications and submissions.



Engaging Stakeholders and Managing Relationships

Engaging with external stakeholders (e.g., Alberta Environment


and Protected Areas

, City of Edmonton) in alignment with Public & Government Affairs guidelines to build strong relationships and meet regulatory and project requirements.



Supporting the Environmental Management System (EMS)

Assisting the Management Representative in maintaining conformance with the EMS and contributing to its continuous improvement.



Conducting Internal Audits and Evaluating Performance

Conducting internal environmental audits to assess compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.



Delivering Environmental Training

Designing, delivering, and evaluating environmental training programs for employees across all levels of the organization.



Managing Contractors and Suppliers

Selecting and managing environmentally relevant contractors and suppliers to ensure alignment with project and regulatory expectations.



Collaborating Across Functions and Implementing Initiatives

Coordinating and implementing environmental initiatives and programs across departments, ensuring alignment with the Electricity Operations business plan.




What’s required to be successful



Qualifications:


Bachelor’s Degree


in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution

Eligible for or holding membership with a regulated professional body (e.g., P.Ag., R.T.Ag., P.Bio.

P.Geo

Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License

Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit
A 5-year commercial-type Driver Abstract may be required
Must have 6 or fewer demerits at the time of hire
Prior unsafe driving infractions may result in non-selection



Assets (Preferred but not required):

Knowledge of ISO 14001
Certification as a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC)
Previous experience in construction or with a utility company



Experience:


5+ years of relevant environmental experience


, including:

Biophysical assessments and surveys (e.g., wildlife, wetland, watercourse, vegetation)
Environmental construction monitoring
Environmental

Contaminated site assessments



Specialized field experience


, such as:

Wildlife surveys and monitoring (e.g., nest sweeps, amphibian salvage, wildlife handling)
Wetland and watercourse assessment (e.g., classification, delineation)
