The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Environmental Coordinator to support the strategic planning and execution of abandonment, remediation, and reclamation programs; support corporate spill response and environmental compliance across Alberta and British Columbia. Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Sustainability, the successful candidate will support the coordination of activities required to progress sites through the closure process, including decommissioning, environmental site assessments, remediation, and reclamation. This role also involves budget oversight, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with internal teams and third-party consultants to ensure efficient and compliant execution of environmental programs.

Responsibilities

- Support the allocation of resources and coordination with third-party consultants to help ensure timely and compliant execution of field programs, including decommissioning, pipeline abandonment, cut and cap, environmental site assessments, remediation, and reclamation activities

- Assist in completing required scopes of work to help facilitate the achievement of Reclamation Certificates in Alberta and Certificates of Restoration (COR) in British Columbia

- Provide support in tracking, management and reporting of program budgets, accruals, and third-party costs ensuring compliance with Alberta’s mandatory spend requirements and British Columbia’s Dormancy Site Regulation

- Provide technical support for spill response and spill investigations, including participating in on-call rotations, supporting after-hours spill cleanups, and assisting with post-incident reviews, analysis and documentation

- Support the coordination of Site-Specific Liability Assessments and regulatory environmental approval requirements (i.e. EPEA specific monitoring, groundwater monitoring plans, soil monitoring plans, waste discharge, etc)

- Assist with the integration of newly acquired sites into the abandonment and reclamation program, as well as with future-year planning in collaboration with internal stakeholders

- Help develop annual budgets for abandonment, assessment, remediation, and reclamation programs, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements

- Foster collaborative relationships with contactors, consultants and regulators

- Conduct ongoing assessments of new contractors and consultants to ensure alignment with ARC's goals and objectives

- Maintain ARC’s culture of ensuring everyone is responsible for safety

- Participate in regulatory, industry and stakeholder groups as required

- Provide support to ARC's Operations teams in Calgary and the field including travel to field locations to execute work plans and monitor activities during spill events


What You Will Bring To Arc

- A bachelors degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field, with a professional designation (e.g., P.Ag., RT.Ag, P.Biol., R.P.Bio.) being considered an asset

- Minimum 5 years of experience in upstream environmental coordination, preferably in oil & gas

- Understanding of provincial legislation and regulatory frameworks governing site closure and environmental liability in Alberta and British Columbia

- Demonstrated experience in progressing sites through closure including decommissioning, environmental site assessment, remediation, and reclamation to achieve Reclamation Certificates (AB) and Certificates of Restoration (BC)

- Spill response and technical oversight, including review of incident reports, regulatory submissions, and cleanup documentation, with working knowledge of containment strategies, emergency response protocols, and provincial/federal reporting requirements

- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills including interactions with regulators, landowners, and internal teams

- Knowledge in technical reporting, regulatory submissions, and documentation to support audits and certification

- Data analytics experience analyzing complex datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement

- Strong PowerPoint skills to create visually appealing presentations to communicate key insights and objectives

- Familiarity with GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS) and environmental data systems for site mapping and analysis

- Budget management and cost tracking skills using systems such as SiteView, Open Ticket, Open Invoice and Power BI
