The AMI Technician is an analyst for AMI WAN/LAN networking technologies, devices, and applications related to the operational support and life-cycle management of the hardware and software infrastructure supporting core Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) operations. The AMI Technician will be monitoring the AMI network and device health and facilitating incident management between applicable external and internal support teams. Additional duties as assigned.
Uses appropriate hand tools and test equipment to install correct electric meter form designation. Use of appropriate testing and safety equipment is required. Uses handheld device to access mapping system, complete electronic service orders, and complete data entry forms. You must always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Requires a high volume of direct contact with customers. Must exhibit professional conduct as a representative of FELPS and remain calm in stressful situations, and when dealing with difficult customers.
Monitor AMI WAN/LAN devices and network performance through web-based access in the field and in office.
Determine resolutions to issues encountered and generate service orders for tasks to be done accordingly.
Coordinate with AMI meter vendors on issues related to purchasing, installation and maintenance; ensure proper testing and repair of equipment.
· Three years or more in metering, and / or electric service field
· Position has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others. Performs daily tasks, follows policies & procedures, communicates with, follows directives from immediate supervisor, foreman or manager.
· . Work may require providing basic information to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies. Contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.
· Skilled in a Technical Field: Work requires comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
· Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License; CPR/First Aid Certification; AMI Administration Certification
The employee will be required to work both in an outdoor and office setting. Physical requirements include, but are not limited to, standing, sitting, walking, lifting 20 to 50 pounds, fine dexterity, foot controls (driving), vision, hearing and talking. Working conditions may involve extended time in variable or adverse weather conditions as well as exposure to vehicle traffic, general construction hazards, heavy equipment and rough terrain.
