Job Description: Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide support in group and individual settings at our center in Coeur d’Alene, and in the community. Participant support is geared towards developing and maintaining skills and abilities to maximize potential for leading a self-directed life and integration within the community to the degree desired. DSPs follow individual participant program plans under the direction of the Developmental Specialist to facilitate growth toward independence.
Essential Job Functions:
•Gather and present material to teach and promote essential life skills, including communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and self-advocacy, to enhance independence and empower individuals as defined by each participant’s prescribed plan.
•Encourage and facilitate the participation of individuals in social, recreational, and vocational activities, both within the program and in the broader community.
•Provide person-centered approaches, positive behavior support, and principles of dignity and respect through modeling.
•Observe and document individual progress, behaviors, and any incidents or changes in health or behavior, adhering to all confidentiality and reporting.
•Ability to identify a crisis, defuse the situation, evaluate/determine interventions and contact necessary supports.
•Record all data ensuring the utmost accuracy daily and submit data records to appropriate sources in a timely fashion.
•Maintain standards of confidentiality and ethical practices.
•DSP staff will be accountable for the progress and development of the participants.
•Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that respects and values diversity.
•Collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, guardians, and external service providers to ensure coordinated care and seamless delivery of services.
•Comply with all agency policies, procedures, and regulations, including health and safety guidelines.
•Participate in all staff meetings and trainings.
•Keep up on new and relevant resources and information.
•Other duties as assigned by supervisor/management.
Professional Requirements:
1. High school diploma or GED (must provide copy of diploma or transcripts).
2. Must be at least 18 years of age. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and conversation.
3. First Aid and CPR certification is required to maintain employment in this position.
4. Complete initial training and at least 12 hrs of annual training.
5. Current driver's license, current insurance, and reliable transportation.
6. Pass criminal history background check with fingerprinting.
7. Pass pre-employment drug test.
Wage:
•Starting wage $16 per hour depending on experience.
•This position is entitled to overtime when over 40 hours are worked within one work week; overtime is not expected.
Benefits:
•Part-time (25-35 hrs/wk) – eligible for pro-rated health care benefits including medical, dental, and vision.
•Paid holiday, sick, and vacation also pro-rated.
•Full-time (36+ hrs/wk) – eligible for full benefits.
•$300 Sign on Bonus after successful completion of 90 days employment – Full Time
•$150 Sign on Bonus after successful completion of 90 days employment – Part Time
