Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC) provides electric service to 50,000 members in East Tennessee. We own and maintain an electric distribution system that covers 600 square miles in parts of Grainger, Hamblen, Hawkins, Jefferson, and Sevier counties.
We currently have an opportunity for a Accounts Payable Clerk position in our New Market, Tennessee office. The Accounts Payable Clerk compiles and processes all Cooperative invoices in an accurate and timely manner for payment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Review, verify, and process invoices for payment
•Prepare and execute payments, including checks, electronic transfers, and ACH payments
•Communicate with vendors to resolve discrepancies, inquiries, and ensure timely payments
•Analyzes and maintains all vendor accounts
•Maintain accurate and highly organized records of all transactions and within the AP office
•Assist in the preparation of expense reports and ensure compliance with company policies
•Reconcile accounts payable transactions and resolve any discrepancies
•Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulations
•Reconcile credit card transactions to ensure accurate payment and resolve discrepancies
•Generate regular reports on accounts payable activities and status
•Enter financial data into accounting software accurately, efficiently, and timely
•Provide support and work together with all AEC teams
•Assist with audits from our professional auditing firm, as needed
•Maintains and provides accurate records for monthly closings
•Performs other duties as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
•Associates degree or Technical certification desirable
•2 years relevant work experience in an accounting department desirable
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
•Must be proficient at operating a 10-Key calculator, computer, printer, copier, fax, and phone systems.
•Must have a working knowledge in Microsoft office software, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
•Able to work effectively with all departments within Co-op and vendor and resource agencies which partner with AEC.
•Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks and assignments
•Function well independently and in a team environment
•Maintain high level of professionalism, transparency and accuracy at all times.
•May require occasional overtime as needed including assisting outside of normal work hours
•Performs all duties in accordance with established safety practices
•Regular on time attendance is required
