About This Job

JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager is directly responsible for managing all activities associated with financial statement preparation, fixed asset reporting, retirement plans administration, coordination and support of financial statement and retirement plan audits, and company tax filings.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES AS ACCOUNTING MANAGER

•

Manages Accounting department and recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new employees.

•

Leads, mentors, and develops the team for superior performance and ensures all day-to-day work assignments are made to meet timelines and deliverables.

•

Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations, salary adjustments, and career planning.

•

Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for the team.

•

Ensures all financial workflows comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

•

Works with the Controller to establish an Internal Control Framework.

•

Performs monthly Balance Sheet and P&L fluctuation analysis.

•

Ensures the accuracy of the monthly financial statement close, including review of critical journal entries and account reconciliations.

•

Prepares judgmental or complex journal entries.

•

Reviews contracts to determine the appropriate revenue recognition in accordance with ASC606.

•

Researches accounting issues and document conclusions for Controller review.

•

Assists the Controller in support of the annual Corporate financial statement audit. May include preparation of PBCs and various schedules.

•

Assists the Controller, to ensure compliance of the 401(k) and ESOP plans under ERISA.

•

Assists in reviewing and interpreting planned legal documents.

•

Oversee the annual 401(k) and ESOP audits and preparation of the 5500 tax returns.

•

Works with external tax professionals to finalize annual U.S. and Canadian federal and state/provincial tax returns.

•

Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government tax requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

•

Strong communication and leadership skills.

•

Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.

•

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong skills in Microsoft Excel.

•

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

•

Demonstrated ability to break down technical components of accounting workflows to facilitate team member learning and development.

•

Excellent organizational and time management skills, with proven ability to meet deadlines.

•

A high level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

•

Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.

•

4 to 8 years of related experience preferred, which includes 2 years in management and/or team lead role required.

•

Public accounting experience strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

•

Able to sit, type, and perform computer work for long periods of time.

•

Frequent use of hands/fingers for computer entry.

•

Able to perform occasional bending, lifting, and reaching.
