Accounting Controller

This job is eligible for relocation assistance to aid with the costs associated with moving to the Colorado Springs area.

As an experienced Accounting Controller, you will lead and manage our centralized accounting functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across key financial operations. This leadership role reports directly to the Chief Planning and Financial Officer and plays a pivotal role in driving financial strategy and operational success within the Planning and Finance Division. You will oversee the Accounting team, provide strategic guidance, and align goals with our Utilities Vision Statement and divisional strategies.


Key Responsibilities:

Lead the Accounting Department, overseeing staffing, budgeting, and daily operations
Manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable, energy settlements, payroll, general accounting, fixed assets, and cash book accounting
Prepare financial reports for our four utility services and related joint venture entities
Ensure compliance with authoritative accounting guidance and implement regulatory pronouncements
Maintain financial and utility plant records, ensuring accurate financial reporting
Provide financial systems support across the division and organization
Collaborate with Financial Services leadership to coordinate financial activities and optimize operations
Oversee and manage all aspects of the annual external audit, ensuring thorough preparation and execution


Qualifications for Success:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field (required)
5 years of experience in business, finance, or accounting (required)
Proven leadership experience in financial operations (required)
7+ years of progressively responsible experience in finance, project planning, supply chain management, or accounting within a utility environment (preferred)
CPA certification or a Master’s degree (preferred but not required)
