Job Summary
Ensures the accurate preparation of external financial statements and related information in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requirements. Supports financial reporting and other activities for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Prepares SEC (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, etc.), debt holder, FERC, parent company and various state jurisdictional reporting requirements and related supporting schedules in accordance with applicable regulations.
Prepares monthly/quarterly financial statements for various reporting purposes.
Supports financial reporting activity for debt and equity issuance and other similar transactions.
Coordinates information requests from other departments to ensure timely receipt of information, detail review the supporting files and ensure the information is prepared in accordance with GAAP, SEC or FERC requirements.
Supports financial reporting submissions to Fortis Inc. to be used in parent company consolidated quarterly and annual filings.
Supports audits or reviews by external auditors, including issue resolution.
Supports processes relating to reporting under XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language).
Performs research for various accounting and reporting matters.
Drives efficient business processes using technology solutions and data gathering.
Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: All Levels:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance
or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
Associate Level:
No minimum years’ experience required
Intermediate Level:
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in accounting (SEC reporting/public accounting experience preferred)
Other Requirements:
Certified Public Accountant preferred.
Experience with Sarbanes Oxley compliance preferred.
Utility accounting experience preferred.
Experience using Workiva’s Wdesk financial reporting software preferred.
Working knowledge of GAAP, SEC and FERC authoritative literature.
Willingness to work in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment, which may require longer hours.
Ability to research and analyze various types of data.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to conceptualize how responsibilities integrate with organization’s interests.
Excellent project management and strong organizational skills
Possesses sound analytical problem-solving skills to resolve complex accounting and other issues.
Above average ability to utilize technology to complete daily assignments.
Above average knowledge of financial systems and the Microsoft Office suite.
