Accountant - Controller

About Us

We are seeeking an experienced Accountant - Controller to oversee our financial operations and provide leadership in accounting, project financials, and strategic reporting. This role will be responsible for ensuring accuracy, compliance, and financial visibility across the company while working closely with our outside CPA firm, lenders, and management team.

Responsibilities

- Financial Oversight: Manage and supervise daily accounting operations, ensuring accuracy in QuickBooks and financial records.

- Project Financials: Oversee project/job costing, monitor budgets vs. actuals, and prepare profitability analysis across multiple projects.

- Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow, working capital, and forecasting to support company growth.

- Invoicing & Billing: Ensure accuracy and timeliness of construction billing, retainage tracking, and AR collections.

- Quarterly & Annual Reporting: Prepare financial packages for lenders, support quarterly reviews, and oversee year-end close in coordination with CPA.

- CPA & Lender Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for outside CPA and banks; provide consistent, organized financial data for compliance and reviews.

- Management Reporting: Provide owners and executives with dashboards, KPIs, and insights to support decision-making and long-term strategy.

- Process Improvement: Implement and maintain financial controls, procedures, and systems to support a growing construction business.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).

- 5–10 years progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3+ years in a Controller or senior accounting role.

- Strong construction accounting background (underground utility/pipeline preferred).

- Advanced QuickBooks experience (job costing, reporting, and multi-entity management).

- Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction billing practices (retainage, progress billing, change orders).

- Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling.

- Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
