The company motto has always been to "Treat others as you would have them treat you" and we are in search of a full time "on-site" Yard Manager for our Tuscaloosa, Alabama facility.
General description: Responsible for maintaining the safety of employees in the main yard area, the accuracy of the steel inventory coming into and out of the facility, ensuring the company’s assets are protected and maintained, providing leadership to his/her assigned team and communicating effectively with peers/management team.
· Support the loading and unloading of inbound/outbound trucks in a safe, accurate and efficient manner.
· Inspect randomly, the on-site physical inventory which includes reviewing the storage tags, location, checking/recording any defects, gauging/measuring material in accordance with the Quality Manual provided by the EKSP Quality Department.
· Work closely with the Production Managers on coordinating work activities, staff and materials to ensure the most cost effective, accurate and safe means of accomplishing production goals.
· Plan, direct and support assigned EKSP and temporary staff daily.
· Continuously clean and maintain work area, assign support equipment and heavy lifting equipment.
· Review daily inspection of forklift and other equipment as assigned.
· Participate in daily Production Meetings to provide accurate and UTD information on production goals/assignments.
· Responsible for inspecting, documenting and storing incoming shipments to ensure accuracy and proper inventory management. Shipments must be checked against purchase orders, packing lists and receiving documentation for correct quantities and quality.
· Communicate in a direct, honest and accurate manner at all times.
· Train/develop new temporary and new EKSP employees to perform at the highest possible level.
· Be a motivator/coach, provide exceptional leadership and motivation for subordinates.
· Support cycle count activities as directed by the Plant Manager of all as-is plates, plate drops and parts in accordance with a quarterly schedule that allows for a complete, all-inclusive count by the close of each quarter.
· Verify that all transfer/move sheets are completed accurately, and material locations are routinely updated in the steel program.
· Ensure all internal and returned, external rejections are quarantined in the appropriate hold location and the necessary personnel are notified.
o Records shall be kept of part number(s), quantities, processing operator and NCM reason.
· Utilizing plate pick lists provided by the Production Managers, locate all material, separate and transfer to specified locations for additional, value-added processing.
· Assist Production Managers in using all aged and/or challenged material to ensure consumption of undesirable material, whenever possible.
· Maintain good communication with programmers to ensure smooth workflow throughout the production areas.
· Responsible for training and managing employees involved with cross cutting/ripping steel plate utilizing basic hand tools and track torch equipment in the yard.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., dexterity and balance.
- Basic reading and mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
- Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills.
- Basic computer and calculator skills.
- 3 - 5 years prior experience in a manufacturing environment
