About This Job

Duties & Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the planning and execution of all through-tubing, dry-tree well work conducted by Talos Energy (excludes routine slickline operations such as gas lift revisions, paraffin scratching, BHP surveys, etc.). Operations include but are not limited to coiled tubing, through-tubing zonal isolations and recompletions, integrity restoration, and stimulations. Work platforms include self-elevating lift boats, production platforms, inland barges, and stimulation vessels. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Actively participate in setting the strategic goals and objectives for the organization as a valued member of the Talos Wells Group (TWG) Leadership Team. This team includes the Drilling Operations Manager, the Completions Operations Manager and the International Wells Manager.

- Build and maintain an inclusive team of qualified and talented employees and contractors. Recognize traits required to achieve long range goals and objectives and make personnel decisions accordingly. Establish clear expectations for performance and development of personnel. Give timely, specific, and meaningful feedback.

- Accountable for creating and fostering a progressive, top tier HSE culture. Establish clear safety and environmental performance expectations with contractors, vendors and internal personnel. Embrace the TWG Beyond Safety philosophy, striving to become a high reliability organization.

- Establish and foster a competitive, performance-oriented culture that relentlessly pursues operational excellence and continuous improvement. Ensure lessons learned, best practices and improvements are captured and incorporated appropriately in the TWG Management System.

- Ensure compliance with and continual improvement of the TWG Management System and associated TWG Design Standards, which, as a package, establishes the minimum expectations for offshore drilling, completion and well work operations, worldwide.

- Drive standardization on operational activities to ensure safety, well control and efficiency. Consistently perform AARs and incorporate the learnings, improvement ideas and corrective actions from unplanned events into the standardized methods and procedures to deliver continuous improvement.

- Ensure the collective talent, knowledge and ability of the Talos Wells Group, especially the Completions group, is effectively applied to vetting ideas and possible solutions, assessing and managing risks, and resolving critical issues that arise during execution.

- Interface continuously with Asset Teams, Development Teams and Operations Services leadership to ensure effective planning, communication, support and alignment. Actively participate in the generation of ideas and possibilities to enhance the value of the dry-tree assets.

- Ensure professional and collaborative interactions with the Production Operations personnel, both office-based and the offshore teams.

- Drive innovation and creative solutions to de-risk and maximize the value of well work projects

- Develop and leverage strategic relationships with industry peers, contractors and regulatory personnel to drive improvements in TWG’s performance.

- Maintain knowledge of current industry trends and advancements within area of responsibility.

- Ensure project risks are identified, clearly communicated and formally managed

- Collaborate closely with both the Drilling and Completion Operations Managers to ensure offshore talent is allocated appropriately based on project complexity, exposure and value.

- Collaborate with the Talos ARO Group on techniques, problem resolution and resource sharing

- Oversee vendor evaluation and selection, as well as work order development for critical vendors.

- Communicate and interface with Senior and Executive Management on the status and performance of the operations.

Education & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering or a related engineering degree

- Minimum of 7 years of well work experience in the offshore environment

- Experience in other petroleum disciplines considered a plus (completions, production, drilling)

- Experience leading a team of well work professionals (engineers and wellsite leaders) in the successful planning and execution of related well work activities.


Qualifications & Skills

- Demonstrated record of Safety Leadership

- Thorough understanding of Gulf of America well work regulations

- Thorough understanding of well work techniques and methodologies for offshore

- Thorough understanding of offshore production facilities as this relates to conducting well work operations and the interfaces that must be effectively planned and managed, including lift boat operations.

- Demonstrated capability to handle complex and concurrent projects with multiple facets.

- Proficient in MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook

- Demonstrates unwavering commitment to integrity and has a strong moral compass. Creates a learning environment where problems and failures can be accurately diagnosed, resolved and prevented in the future.

- Effective at leading people and motivating teams and organizations to perform at a higher level and fully embrace the continuous improvement cycle.

- Able to prioritize a daunting list of “to-dos” by separating the mission-critical requirements from the “nice-to-haves” and allocate resources and efforts accordingly.

- Comfortable with confronting challenges, both operational and personnel, and able to make and convey tough decisions objectively and professionally.

- Willing to work a demanding and flexible schedule.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to sit for extended periods of time and have use of arms and hands in repetitive motion. A fair amount of standing and walking is also required for the position.

- Ability to travel without limitation, including airplanes, helicopters and boats.

- Ability to move freely on offshore facilities, including stairs.

- Ability to utilize swing ropes to access platforms offshore as required.

- Ability to move freely on offshore assets, including stairs, ladders and lifting up to 50-lbs, and endure extreme weather conditions and hazardous atmospheres.
