Job Summary:
The Welding Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the welding department, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity standards are met. This role involves managing a team of fitters, welders and fabricators, coordinating workloads, training staff, maintaining equipment, and working closely with engineering and production team members to meet project deadlines.
Key Duties and Responsibilities of the Job:
•Supervise and coordinate the activities of fitters, welders, and fabricators.
•Assign jobs, monitor progress, and ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
•Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols to guide team members.
•Inspect welds and final assemblies for quality and compliance with specifications.
•Ensure a safe working environment by upholding safety procedures and conducting regular safety meetings.
•Maintain inventory of welding and consumable supplies and order as needed.
•Conduct regular maintenance checks on welding equipment and schedule repairs when necessary.
•Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees.
•Address and resolve personnel issues, disciplinary actions, and performance concerns.
•Track department performance metrics.
•Communicate with project managers, engineers, and sales to ensure alignment on priorities and deadlines.
Experience / Qualifications:
•High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in welding or related field preferred.
•Minimum 5 years of experience in welding or metal fabrication, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
•Strong knowledge of welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Core), materials, and fabrication processes.
•Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and welding blueprints.
•Proficient in using measuring tools and inspection instruments.
•Familiar with OSHA safety standards and best practices in a welding environment.
•Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
•Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
•Stand, bend, and move for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
