We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Wastewater Operator to join our team. A District Water & Wastewater Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of the District’s water and sewer facilities and equipment, working under the guidance of department leadership. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and standards. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, data collection, and heavy equipment operation to effectively manage the treatment process and maintain optimal performance.

Essential Functions

- Maintains and operates various systems for water and sewer.

- Maintains water wells.

- Maintains water diversion structure.

- Maintains water tanks.

- Performs light system repairs.

- Works with chemicals and chemical storage.

- Tests water quality and takes water and wastewater samples for lab testing.

- Maintains, reports, and cleans up for storm drainage improvements.

- Performs construction inspections of new water and sewer mains and service laterals.

- Performs on-call duties.

- Locates and marks District underground utilities.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

- None

Education/Experience

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

- Two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and Licenses

- Colorado water distribution operator certification, Level 3 preferred

- Colorado water treatment operator certification, level C preferred

- Colorado wastewater collection system operator certification, level 2 or above preferred

- Valid Driver’s License

Equipment

Must be able to use the following equipment:

- Lift stations with primary wastewater treatment

- Pumps

- Electrical motors

- Light equipment like back hoes and skid loaders

- ATVs with plows

Required Skills and Abilities

- Must have a working knowledge of SCADA software

- Ability to analyze and process SCADA data

- Understands a wide variety of environmental issues, programs, and regulations

- Ability to communicate effectively in a positive and friendly manner with coworkers and the public.

Physical Demands

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, walk on even and uneven surfaces, climb stairs

- Must be able to see, talk and hear effectively.

- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

- Work locations include indoor and outdoor environments.

- Frequent exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.

- Occasionally exposure to high places and risk of electrical shock.

- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Pay: $31.00 - $36.00 per hour
