The City of Schulenburg is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Water/Wastewater Operator to expand our team and perform duties essential in operating and maintaining the City's Water System and Wastewater Collection system.
· Reads and maintains various flow meters, water interconnects, meters/gages at water well and wastewater plants, lift stations, water booster stations, collect samples, and other utility appurtenances;
· Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on water and sewer lines, including unclogging lines using hydro jets, routers, and hand tools, light and heavy equipment, , repairing well pumps, performing minor plumbing maintenance at city facilities, collects samples and maintain city swimming pool, performing connects and disconnects, and testing for low water pressure;
exercising and/or replacing valves, repairing lift station pumps, entering confined spaces;
· Maintains grounds at water plants, water wells , city pool, field operations, lift stations, booster stations, plants and other facilities;
· Repairs water and sewer leaks, including digging holes and trenches, using backhoes and other equipment, and placing necessary shoring;
· Staff the on-call rotation list subject to un-scheduled off-duty emergencies; and
· Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
High school graduation, or its equivalent, plus at least two (2) years of experience in water or wastewater utility operations or construction; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical: Employee must be able to pass a physical examination and drug test given by a physician designated by the city.
Valid TCEQ Class C Water or Wastewater Operator License. If no license, must be able to obtain a Class D Water or Wastewater License within 6 months (Course / Exam fees covered by City).
Valid Texas Class C Driver's License, with an acceptable driving record.
· Work hours are spent in a shop, facility, or outdoor environment
· Work involves weekends, holidays, and non-standard hours
· Work requires response time within 60 minutes of designated service area
· Work involves exposure to various and sometimes extreme weather conditions
· Work involves exposure to highspeed rotating machinery
· Work involves handling and inspecting equipment containing hazardous chemicals and wastes
· Work involves finger/hand manipulation in using hand tools and operating equipment
· Work involves standing and/or walking in repairing and maintaining equipment
· Work involves climbing, crouching, and crawling, or other non-sitting positions in repairing and maintaining equipment
· Work involves lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
· Work involves pushing and pulling up to 100 lbs.
· Work involves performing work at chest level or higher, including overhead full arm extension holding up to 25 lbs.
