Under the supervision of the Treatment Plant Superintendent, performs skilled work to control the physical, chemical, and biological wastewater treatment process and operations. Confers with the Superintendent on process operations and maintenance priorities.
- Performs routine and corrective maintenance to maintain the plants’ equipment in good working order.
- Monitors performance of and directs operations and maintenance of mechanical devices designed to process wastewater and sludge.
- Plans for the start-up and shutdown of wastewater treatment process equipment.
- Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and test results to assist the Treatment Plant Superintendent in evaluating process requirements.
- Assist in general housekeeping chores.
- Accepts “on call” duties during nights, weekends, and/or holidays as scheduled or assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Arkansas driver’s license. Class I Wastewater Operator’s license, or the ability to obtain within one year of employment. Ability to communicate effectively both oral and written. Ability to obtain a CDL at the Superintendent’s discretion, if determined necessary.
Outside working environment, confined spaces, and direct contact with raw sewage, wherein there are disagreeable working conditions part of the time.
Moderate Diversity – Moderately Physical: Work activities which allow for a moderate amount of diversity in the performance of tasks which requires somewhat diversified physical demands of the employee. Ability to turn heavy valves, open gates, lift objects weighing approximately 100 lbs.
