With over 43,000 active connections in one of the fastest-growing regions in the U.S., Mustang SUD is committed to excellence in public service, living up to our motto: “Second to None—Providing Life’s Most Precious Resource.” We are seeking a strategic and experienced Water Utility Safety Specialist, Senior to develop, implement, administer, and monitor safety programs to ensure a safe workplace as well as compliance with applicable regulations.
Position Summary
The Water Utility Safety Specialist, Senior role is crucial in ensuring the development of safety practices and policies throughout the organization. This role performs work of an independent nature, utilizing professional judgement in assessing risk, reviewing work practices and determining best practice, achieving compliance with regulatory standards and Mustang’s safety policies.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
•Assessments: Conducts safety audits, site inspections, risk assessments, and job hazard analysis to identify potential hazards. The Water Utility Safety Specialist, Senior will prepare inspection reports and functions as a key employee contact for all safety matters and concerns.
•Investigations: Acts as a liaison and oversees accidents and incidents and near miss investigations, including incident analyses, reporting, and initiating corrective actions alongside leadership to prevent occurrence. Inspect and observe environmental conditions and employee performance to identify hazards, detect risks and develop recommendations for safety and occupational health hazards through job specific hazard analysis.
•Development: Schedule, assign, and train staff within the organization on policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all safety procedures.
•Process: Establish, create, and maintain documentation that includes standard operating procedures for cross functional departments such as Operations, Construction, Engineering, and Administration.
•Related Duties: Develops, updates, and tracks various safety-related reports, including Safety Performance Measures, incidents, and other key safety indicators.
Education:
•Required: Bachelor's degree in industrial safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety or equitable years of experience in utility operations or construction in lieu of degree.
•Preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Class A Water and/or Wastewater license, Certified Occupational License Trainer in Water or Wastewater, Class A CDL
Experience:
•Required: In addition to the education requirement, 5 years or more experience in utility operations or construction are required.
Working Conditions:
•Office Environment: Work is primarily conducted in an office setting, with long periods spent sitting and using computer equipment.
•Outdoor Work in Extreme Weather: The role frequently requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain and wind. Water Utility Safety Specialist, Senior must be prepared to conduct site inspections and oversee field operations in all types of weather to ensure continuous service and compliance with standards.
•Exposure to Hazardous Conditions: Regular exposure to hazardous conditions is a part of the job. This includes working near heavy machinery, potentially harmful chemicals, and in environments where safety protocols must be strictly followed to prevent accidents and injuries.
•Physical Demands: The role involves significant physical activity, such as walking, standing, climbing, and bending, often on uneven terrain.
Conditions of Employment
•Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License before employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" drivers license within 30 days of hire per state law).
•Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check.
