Tahoe City Public Utility District (TCPUD) is seeking two highly skilled and motivated individuals to join our Utilities Department as:
•Senior Utilities Operations Specialist – assigned to Underground
•Senior Utilities Operations Specialist – assigned to Pump Stations

Senior Utilities Operations Specialist – assigned to Underground
•Leads the maintenance, repair, and operation activities of TCPUD’s entire water distribution and wastewater collection facilities.
•Works with the Utilities Superintendent assigned to Underground to prioritize assigned projects and in conjunction with the Superintendent, is responsible for the implementation of proper construction methods in the field.
•Works with the Utilities Superintendent assigned to Underground in preparing work schedules and coordinating with and/or assigning workers and equipment to various tasks.
•Responds to emergency calls on weekends, holidays and evenings as well as be available for standby duty as assigned and necessary; participate in the on-call rotation.
•Trains, or assigns appropriate staff to train, new and existing personnel in the District’s drinking water distribution and wastewater collection system operation, procedures and system maintenance as well as the safe and efficient operation of a variety of motorized vehicles, equipment, machines and tools in a variety of weather conditions.
•As needed, coordinates with and assists contractors, government agency representatives and other utility providers on projects affecting the District’s water distribution and wastewater collection underground facilities.
•Reviews closed-circuit television ( inspections) of sewer lines; determine appropriate (corrective actions ).
Senior Utilities Operations Specialist – assigned to Pump Stations
•Leads the maintenance, repair, and operation activities of TCPUD’s entire water and wastewater pumping facilities
•Works with the Utilities Superintendent assigned to Pump Stations to prioritize assigned projects and in conjunction with the Superintendent, is responsible for the implementation of proper construction methods in the field.
•Works with the Utilities Superintendent assigned to Pump Stations in preparing work schedules and coordinating with and/or assigning workers and equipment to various tasks.
•Responds to emergency calls on weekends, holidays and evenings as well as be available for standby duty as assigned and necessary; participate in the on-call rotation.
•Trains, or assigns appropriate staff to train, new and existing personnel in the District’s drinking water and wastewater pumping facilities, procedures and system maintenance as well as the safe and efficient operation of a variety of motorized vehicles, equipment, machines and tools in a variety of weather conditions.
•Operates and maintains District’s water treatment plant facility, including disinfection, coagulation, flocculation, filtration and backwashing; collect samples and test for overall quality of raw and treated water; determine and add required chemicals to ensure water is safe for consumption; monitor chemical feed tanks and restock as necessary; adjust water flow rates as needed.
Both roles are lead-level positions responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of TCPUD’s critical water and wastewater infrastructure. Both roles also have the responsibility of exercising technical and functional supervision over assigned maintenance staff. The ideal candidate will not only have the technical skills required for the position but will also be passionate about mentoring and leading a staff of dedicated Utilities professionals.
The ideal candidate for these positions will have:
Any combination of education and experience which would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience performing journey level work in wastewater collection and/or water distribution comparable to that of a Utilities Operations Specialist III with the District, with an emphasis on area of assignment.
Certification & Licensing Requirements:
•Possession of appropriate and valid driver’s license and driving record that complies with District policy is required. Must obtain Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License or equivalent within six (6) months of appointment.
•Possession of a valid T2 Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the California State Department of Public Health.
•Possession of a valid D2 Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the California State Department of Public Health.
•Possession of a valid Grade III Collection System Maintenance Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association. Must obtain certificate within eighteen (18) months of appointment.
*In addition, when assigned to Pump Stations:
•Possession of a valid Grade III PM Mechanical Technologist Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association. Must obtain certificate within eighteen (18) months of appointment.
