The Water Services Worker 08 s erves as a member of an investigation, valve, and hydrant replacement/repair crew. The incumbent is responsible for completing the full scope of service assignments under the direct guidance of a higher-level worker or Foreman.
- Assists with installation and repairs of valves, hydrants, curb cocks and curb cock boxes, and meter boxes.
- Participates in inspection and investigation of customer complaints.
- Performs various manual tasks to support the general maintenance of the water distribution system.
- Assists higher level worker in shutting off water, using valve or curb keys after identifying type of valve to determine proper number of turns necessary to close it. Notifies public that water will be shut off for an estimated length of time.
- Operates hydrants to drain or flush main.
- Assists the crew leader in investigating and locating problems in water mains and sewer services. Operates an air compressor and jackhammer to break up concrete, asphalt or stone.
- Operates a special body truck. Utilizes a two-way radio and other communication tools. Sees that the vehicle is kept clean and maintained in gasoline, oil and water and that all safety devices on them are operating properly. Performs daily preventive maintenance check on vehicles and air compressor.
- Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.
- Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations.
Works on call during hours and schedule identified by the Authority and is required to work overtime during emergencies.
- Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.
Key Working Relationships: Interacts with co-workers throughout the department.
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.
Two (2) years of progressive experience involving the installation and/or maintenance of water services and cross connections and the replacement and maintenance of valves and hydrants.
High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
Skill in reading and understanding various pressure and diffuser gauges used for measuring water pressure.
Ability to read and interpret pertinent water, sewer and construction plats, maps and drawings.
Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License.
Subject to indoor and/or outdoor environmental conditions that include exposure to extreme cold and/or hot temperatures.
Subject to noise, vibration, and hazards from a variety of physical conditions.
Subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation, or to exposure to oils or other cutting fluids.
