Join our Summer Intern Program and gain hands-on experience in the wastewater utility industry. As a Wastewater Operator Intern, you’ll support the daily operations of our wastewater treatment facilities and collection systems under the guidance of experienced and certified professionals.
This internship provides meaningful exposure to wastewater treatment processes, laboratory testing, water quality sampling, SCADA system monitoring, and operational support activities. You’ll learn how wastewater systems protect public health and the environment while building practical, real‑world skills that support a future career in wastewater operations.
Internship Dates: June 1, 2026 – August 7, 2026
- Assist with collecting operational and maintenance data for wastewater treatment facilities and collection systems
- Support wastewater sampling activities in the field under the guidance of operators and the Water Quality Specialist
- Learn how to conduct laboratory testing for wastewater systems and assist with full sets of labs under supervision
- Observe and assist with routine wastewater treatment operations, maintenance activities, and basic troubleshooting
- Learn about SCADA systems, including monitoring system data and observing operational adjustments made by certified operators
- Receive daily job assignments through work orders and direction from Operators, Lead Operators, or Supervisors
- Support administrative and operational tasks such as data entry, recordkeeping, and compliance documentation
- Become familiar with facility plans, standard operating procedures, and regulatory requirements related to wastewater operations
- Accurately track time worked and tasks performed using established systems
- Complete required documentation such as job hazard assessments, vehicle inspections, laboratory records, daily reports, and facility log books with training and oversight
- Support other projects and responsibilities as requested
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a water‑related, environmental, engineering, biology, chemistry, or technical program
- Interest in learning more about wastewater treatment and utility operations
- Willingness to follow safety procedures and work in a regulated, compliance‑driven environment
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when assisting with sampling and laboratory work
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with a diverse team
- Curiosity, dependability, and a desire to learn hands‑on technical and operational skills
