Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Vice President of Engineering to lead our engineering team for utility-scale solar projects. Based in Bozeman, MT, this executive role is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of our solar EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) operations. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in both electrical and civil engineering disciplines, with the ability to stamp projects. They will ensure projects meet regulatory standards, maintain cost efficiency, and drive innovation within the engineering team. This position plays a crucial role in helping our company achieve its strategic growth and sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
•Leadership & Team Development: Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team, including electrical and civil engineers, project managers, and design specialists. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
•Technical Oversight: Act as the technical authority across electrical and civil engineering functions for utility-scale solar projects. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements while delivering optimal project designs.
•Project Stamping & Compliance: Utilize PE certification to provide project stamps for both electrical and civil engineering components as required. Ensure all stamped designs adhere to local, state, and federal regulations.
•Project Lifecycle Management: Oversee all phases of engineering for utility-scale solar projects, from initial feasibility studies through to design, procurement, and construction. Ensure that engineering deliverables meet project timelines, quality, and budget targets.
•Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the executive team to set and achieve long-term goals, aligning engineering capabilities with the company's growth strategy and project pipeline.
•Vendor & Partner Relations: Build and maintain relationships with technology vendors, consultants, and contractors. Conduct technical evaluations and negotiate terms to optimize engineering outcomes and project costs.
•Budget Management: Develop and manage the engineering department budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to meet project demands while controlling costs.
•Risk & Safety Management: Identify potential risks in project designs and field operations, developing mitigation strategies to ensure safety and reliability throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
•Education & Licensing: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, or related field). PE certification in either electrical or civil engineering, with the ability to stamp projects.
•Experience: 10+ years of engineering leadership experience in the renewable energy sector, with a strong background in both electrical and civil engineering for utility-scale solar projects.
•Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of solar PV system design, site grading, foundation requirements, and energy modeling. Familiarity with applicable electrical and civil engineering codes and standards.
•Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage and inspire a high-performing technical team, with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and results.
•Project Management: Demonstrated success in managing large, complex solar EPC projects from design to completion, with a strong focus on meeting timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
•Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of relevant industry regulations and standards, with the ability to ensure compliance across electrical and civil project aspects.
Preferred Qualifications
•EPC Experience: Prior experience working within the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) model.
•Hybrid Systems: Familiarity with energy storage systems and hybrid renewable projects.
•Technical Tools: Proficiency in design and modeling tools such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, and project management software.
•Industry Connections: Established network within the solar and renewable energy sectors, including key vendors and industry stakeholders.
