The Utility Worker
performs a variety of semiskilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, repair and replacement related to the District’s infrastructure. They operate various types of mobile and general construction equipment, working on canals, pipelines, pumping plants, roads, buildings, and other facilities. The Utility Worker has knowledge of the identification, use, and operation of common power tools utilized in construction or maintenance trades.
The
ideal candidatehas a team-oriented positive attitude, with experience working in a construction, mechanical, metal, or building trade. They deal courteously with the public; and communicate effectively verbally and in writing. A strong candidate has the ability to perform manual work requiring the use of independent judgment and initiative. This position may be required to work after-hours on emergency repairs and required to participate in a scheduled after-hours stand-by duty rotation.

Salary Information Salary Range: $27.62 - $45.19 (Range 116 – 140)
Salary placement is based on the number of qualifying licenses and certifications held. Candidates without certifications will be placed at the entry level range.

- 1 certification = $29.05 - $35.31 (Range 120)
- 2 certifications = $30.89 - $37.53 (Range 125)
- 3 certifications = $32.82 - $39.93 (Range 130)
- 4 certifications = $34.93 - $42.48 (Range 135)
- 5 certifications = $37.21 - $45.19 (Range 140)
Qualifications
Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above and the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Experience And Education
- A typical qualifying entrance background is prior employment in laboring work which has provided familiarity with the operation and uses of construction or maintenance equipment, hand, and power tools common to a construction, mechanical, metal or building trade. Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record to maintain insurability.
- Possession and maintenance of, or the ability to obtain within nine (9) months of hire, a California Department of Motor Vehicles Class B license is a condition of employment.
