What We Offer

Overview

The Utility Operator 1 position is an entry level utility operator position supporting our Construction department. This position will require direction for performing the functions in the Valve Crew, Leak Crew and Meter Shop, excluding USA & Governmental, heavy equipment operation (backhoe, dump truck, etc), and crew lead positions which are performed by more experienced department personnel.

What You'll Do

This position will be willing and able to perform the following duties and others as assigned:

+ Perform water system repairs requiring excavation. + Operate tools (jackhammer, saws), pumps, and install repair parts. + Restore site conditions including landscape and cleanup. + Repair/replace leaking meter assemblies and small/large meters. + Perform hand excavation and dewatering. + Document meter reads and serial numbers accurately. + Support Lifeline program with inspections and repairs. + Operate valve trucks and pneumatic tools. + Inspect and maintain valves using GIS and as-builts. + Document inspection results and maintain equipment. + Operate and maintain crew trucks, BMP trailers, and compressor trailers. + Ensure vehicles and equipment are clean, functional, and stocked. + Follow all safety protocols including confined space entry, trench safety, and PPE usage. + Comply with water quality, stormwater, and environmental standards. + Attend safety meetings and report hazards. + Assist other crews as needed.
