Position: Utility Operator
Classification: Non-exempt
Reports to: Plant Foreman and Management
Summary:
Utility Operators are responsible for supporting the plant in various roles including running the excavator, front end loaders, and performing basic maintenance on the plant equipment. The primary responsibility is running the long reach excavator where you will be responsible for digging out and maintaining the level of mud in the silt pond. You will also relieve loader operators and performing light to moderate maintenance duties as needed. Operators should be highly skilled in the operation of the equipment as well as maintaining an excellent safety record. The Operator is responsible for their equipment to ensure it is in good working order by regular maintenance and reporting to the Maintenance department as soon as issues arise. Operators are cognizant of the need to perform their duties in a timely manner in order to ensure efficient operations. Operators must be aware of the need to keep in step with production requirements and/or communicate when issues arise that would impede the production as soon as possible
Pay:
The estimated annual pay is $80,000 - $95,000 including overtime on a 14:7 schedule.
Hourly pay ranges from $20 - $25/hr. plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
•Ability and knowledge to operate and monitor heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
•Maintain level floor around excavation.
•Maintain equipment with regular greasing and reports to maintain on issues with the equipment.
•Manages the hours of the shift to provide the most efficient means of excavating material.
•Ensure that work area is clean, safe, and free of obstacles.
•Participate in daily Pre-shift Toolbox Talks with Management and/or Foreman and co-workers.
•Communicates with Plant Foreman, Night/Day shift Foreman on an on-going basis to ensure production requirements, safety and efficiency of operation.
•Communicates with Plant Foreman, Night/Day shift Foreman and co-workers regarding schedules, absences, and PTO.
•Always maintains safety guidelines by performing pre and post shift safety checks, and wearing the appropriate safety equipment, and awareness of workers and equipment around you.
•Comply with MSHA and industry requirements.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Potential Duties & Responsibilities:
•Completes maintenance and repairs of equipment and plant.
•Pull samples of product and run appropriate QC tests.
•Perform Quality Control duties including pulling samples and running them through the testing process.
•Carry out tasks assigned by Foreman’s and Management.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
•Heavy Equipment Experience
•Basic mechanical abilities.
•Demonstrate communication and problem-solving skills.
•Demonstrate the ability to carry out simple oral and written instructions.
•Demonstrable ability to utilize time efficiently and productively.
•Strong desire to learn other aspects of the plant.
Education and Experience:
•High school diploma or equivalent
•At least two years of related experience highly preferred
•30 CFR Part 46 training desired
Physical Requirements:
•Working in dusty and noisy environments
•Lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 75 pounds
•Comfortable with heights up to 65 feet
