Position

Underground Technical Specialist, Nunavut

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Superintendent, Maintenance, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

Responsibilities

- Provide hands-on technical support and training to underground technicians, with a strong focus on Sandvik Jumbo Bolting, Cable Bolting, and Long Hole Drilling units;

- Support supervisors and superintendents in promoting and enforcing safe work practices during all maintenance activities;

- Collaborate with planning and reliability teams to enhance fleet performance, improve equipment reliability, and increase maintenance efficiency;

- Work closely with operations to ensure equipment is operated safely, effectively, and in alignment with design specifications; and

- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, while mentoring and coaching technicians to build technical capability and confidence across the maintenance workforce.

Desired Competencies and Requirements

- Five (5) years of extensive hands-on experience with underground mining equipment, specifically Sandvik drilling fleets in remote mining locations with harsh and cold conditions;

- Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Nunavut Heavy Equipment Technician is required;

- Strong knowledge of UG Jumbo Bolting, Cable Bolting, and Long Hole units maintenance and operation; and

- Excellent understanding of safe work practices, hazard recognition, and risk management in UG mining.

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $179,140.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $65.00 and overtime rate of $97.50) in a work year.
