- Operate company-owned straight trucks and tractor–trailers to deliver materials to customers, job sites, and distribution points in a safe and timely manner.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and report any defects, damage, or required maintenance in accordance with DOT regulations and company policy.
- Verify accuracy of shipping documents, materials, and quantities before departure; ensure load is properly secured and complies with weight and safety limits.
- Assist with loading and unloading freight, including the use of forklifts, pallet jacks, straps, and other load-handling equipment as needed.
- Safely handle and deliver sheet metal, gutters, coils, and other building products without damage to materials or equipment.
- Obtain customer signatures on delivery documents and maintain accurate delivery records and logs.
- Communicate delivery updates, delays, or incidents promptly to dispatch or supervisor.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic laws as well as company safety and driving policies.
- Maintain cleanliness and basic condition of assigned vehicle and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Follow site safety procedures while operating in yards, warehouses, or customer locations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including assisting warehouse staff when not driving.
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 75 pounds frequently and handle materials manually or with load-assist devices.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing in and out of trucks.
- Ability to secure loads with straps, chains, or tarps and to maneuver heavy or irregularly shaped materials safely.
- Must be able to operate commercial vehicles for extended periods, including sitting for several hours and performing repetitive hand and foot motions.
- Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination and vision to safely operate vehicles and equipment.
- Work performed primarily outdoors and in warehouse or yard environments, subject to exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Regular exposure to dust, noise, and metal materials consistent with an industrial environment.
- Must be able to operate safely around forklifts, cranes, and other heavy equipment.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required, including gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Minimum one year of commercial driving experience preferred; experience with flatbed or building materials delivery a plus.
- Knowledge of DOT safety and hours-of-service regulations.
- Ability to work independently and interact professionally with customers and coworkers.
