Transportation Safety Specialist
to support our growing operations. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who thrives in both the field and office environments and is passionate about promoting safety culture across our transportation operations.
What You’ll Do:
Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Transportation Safety Specialist will lead risk management and ensure compliance with DOT safety regulations across multiple transportation modes—highway, rail, air, and water. You’ll be an integral part of our safety team, working closely with operational staff to create and maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Hazardous Materials (PHMSA):
•Ensure compliance with PHMSA regulations for hazardous and non-hazardous material transport.
•Interpret hazmat regulations related to placarding, marking, labeling, and shipping documentation.
•Maintain PHMSA registrations, special permits, and DOT security plans.
Motor Carrier (FMCSA):
•Maintain FMCSA carrier registration (MCS-150).
•Review driver MVR and PSP records, conduct road tests, and manage DQ files.
•Oversee driver safety records, DOT medical certifications, and physician registration.
•Administer drug and alcohol testing programs and monitor Clearinghouse data.
•Monitor HOS logs, vehicle inspections, roadside inspections, and telematics alerts.
•Maintain accident registers and ensure timely corrective actions.
Railroad (FRA) & Air (FAA):
•Interpret and ensure compliance with FRA and FAA regulations.
•Oversee railroad track safety and related regulatory inspections.
•Manage air transport training for hazardous materials.
Risk & Safety Management:
•Develop and deliver safety training across departments.
•Monitor CSA scores and manage DataQ disputes.
•Investigate vehicle incidents and manage insurance claims and reporting.
•Conduct internal safety audits and manage policy updates.
•Track driver MVRs and maintain documentation compliance.
What You’ll Bring:
of experience managing DOT-related functions under PHMSA, FMCSA, or FRA preferred.
•Prior or current CDL preferred.
•Strong communication and analytical skills.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with safety software and databases.
•Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
•Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
•Willingness to travel regionally up to 25% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to walk quickly, climb stairs/ladders, wear up to Level B PPE, and lift/move up to 40 lbs.
