The Training & Skills Development Specialist is responsible for the development and delivery of both technical and safety related training programs to employees. The specialist also supports the functional areas in the development and delivery of programs and workshops to prepare all Powerline Technicians for successful transitions to higher levels of responsibility.
Responsibilities
•Design, develop and deliver comprehensive technical training content in alignment with the Red Seal Powerline Technician program standards and provincial apprenticeship requirements
•Ensure all training content is compliant with provincial safety regulations and aligned with provincial Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Code and industry best practices.
•Develop training project plans including timelines, milestones, and accountability structured in support of workforce planning and program delivery
•Conduct Training Needs Assessments on internal departments to effectively observe, measure, test and analyze current and future training needs
•Collaborate with subject matter experts, business partners, and peers to align training development with desired outcomes and ensure all material is relevant, accurate, and engaging and aligned with evolving utility industry requirements
•Identify and integrate new tools, techniques, and equipment that will result in increased safety and higher productivity in construction and maintenance activities
•Deliver and document on-the-job training, competency assessments, and progression tracking for apprentices in accordance with the Red Seal trade pathway. Support apprentices through each level of their technical training and hours accumulation.
•Serve as primary point of contact for the apprentices related to technical training, jobsite integration and apprenticeship program compliance
•Promote a culture of safety and excellence by incorporating hazard recognition, risk mitigation, and proper use of PPE into all aspects of training and evaluation and motivate colleagues to ensure continued success
Qualifications and Requirements
•Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the high voltage electrical sector, preferably as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician
•Minimum three (3) years’ experience developing and delivering training
•High School diploma or equivalent is required
•Red Seal certified trade certificate or a relevant training designation
•Experience in Adult Learning techniques in designing and delivering training and support materials is an asset
•Experience in competency and needs analysis
•Proficient with Microsoft 365
•In depth knowledge of relevant professional standards and best practices, industry requirements and associated job steps and hazards, including OHSA and EUSR
•Demonstrated presentation and training skills
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization and external parties
•Travel is a component of this role (25%, within Alberta)
