Position Summary :
AGY is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Training Specialist to enhance the effectiveness of our plant-wide training program. This full-time salaried role will work alongside our current training team to ensure new and existing employees are trained consistently, effectively, and in alignment with work instructions and operational excellence goals.
The ideal candidate will bring external perspective and best practices in adult learning, classroom instruction, and manufacturing onboarding, and will take a hands-on approach in coaching trainers and employees on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities:
•Develop and prepare classroom presentations, lesson plans, and instructional materials aligned with AGY work instructions, safety standards, and job-specific requirements.
•Conduct classroom-based orientation and skills training for new hires and job changes.
•Deliver refresher training and upskilling for incumbent employees across departments.
•Teach and reinforce company safety protocols, work instructions, and quality standards.
•Collaborate with hourly training coordinators and on-shift trainers to ensure OJT is being delivered as planned and documented properly.
•Conduct periodic evaluations of OJT effectiveness and provide coaching or retraining as needed.
•Review and help maintain training documentation and job-specific work instructions.
•Identify gaps or inconsistencies in how different areas execute training.
•Standardize methods and tools used by trainers across shifts and departments.
•Conduct field observations to assess training effectiveness.
•Collect feedback from trainees and trainers to refine content and delivery.
•Track performance trends and correlate to training practices to drive continuous improvement.
•Mentor on-shift trainers in instructional methods and communication.
•Facilitate 'train the trainer' sessions to build internal training capability.
•Provide real-time support during job transitions or high-volume onboarding.
•Work with the training team to ensure accurate and timely documentation of all training activities.
Assist in preparing for internal audits or customer visits by ensuring training records are current and complete.
Qualifications:
•Minimum 3 years of experience in training and development, preferably in an industrial setting.
•Demonstrated ability to lead classroom sessions and provide on-the-floor coaching.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills across all levels of the organization.
•Knowledge of LMS systems is advantageous and pertinent for this role.
•Familiarity with adult learning principles, job instruction techniques, and training documentation standards.
Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
Schedule & Environment:
•This is a salaried, full-time, on-site position requiring flexibility to work across all shifts.
•Will spend significant time on the production floor engaging with trainers and trainees.
