OFPT Transmission Inc. is an electrical engineering consultant company that supports clients in the power utility and oil and gas sectors. OFPT is currently on contract with EPCOR Distribution and Transmission Inc. to provide engineering services. The majority of the work we do with EPCOR is in the downtown core of Edmonton. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical or Civil Technologist or Engineer to join our dynamic team to fill one full-time position.
- Preparing electrical engineering design packages including the following; cable replacements, cable routing in manholes and ductline, network transformer and high voltage switch installations, switching cubicle installations, secondary network design, new service installations, terminations in switchgear, protection relaying, cable tray installs, automation and control systems, networking and communications.
- Preparing civil engineering design packages including the following; concrete encased ductbank, underground vaults and manholes, vault roof rebuilds, cable pulling tensions, structural assessments, temporary shoring, drain line installations.
- Liaising with customers, contractors and project managers to deliver designs on time and within budget. Coordination with Issue for Construction deadlines.
- Ensuring all designs are in compliance with Electrical Utility Regulations, the Canadian Electrical Code, and EPCOR Distribution Construction Standards.
- Preparing construction packages including plans and profiles, work scope, estimating, electrical schematics, site drawings, cadastral plans, manhole routing cards, utility line assignments, 3D vaullt equipment layouts, coordination with various utilities in the City of Edmonton.
- Performing field visits to ensure design standards are met and are in compliance with the Alberta Electrical and Communication Utility Code, the Canadian Electrical Code, and EPCOR Distribution Construction Standards.
- Reviewing Land Titles and Right of Way documents for preparation of easements. Preparing railway, pipeline and right-of way crossing drawings as required.
- Regularly reviewing design and drafting standards and templates and proposing relevant changes.
- Providing detailed estimates on work orders and provide variance explanations if required.
- Performing engineering calculations, such as: cable pulling calculations, load flow analysis, voltage drop, load calculations, wire sag, tension and swing, wire clearances, pole selection,
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met through effective time management.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing client inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
- Analyze project requirements and specifications to provide technical support and guidance.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and technologies to improve project outcomes.
- Assist in the preparation of project documentation, including reports and presentations.
- 2-year diploma in Electrical or Civil Engineering Technology or 4-year degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering from a recognized technical institute.
- Proven experience in project management with a strong emphasis on time management skills.
- 5+ years of directly related experience.- Membership with ASET as a CET (Certified Engineering Technologist) or APEGA as either a P.Eng (Professional Engineer) or an E.I.T (Engineer in Training) or eligibility for membership
- Minimum of 2 years of related work experience within Canada.
- Experience with GE Electric Office, Microstation, Projectwise, CYME, IVARA, Bentley SPIDAcalc, would be considered an asset.
- Valid Alberta Driver's License, with no more than 6 demerits. A Driver abstract will be required.
- Clearance on a security background check is required.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. A copy of a valid work permit may be required.
- Professional Licensee, Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist designations would be considered an asset.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to apply sound distribution design skills using established standards and to develop new standards.
- Self-motivated with the ability to adapt readily to changing requirements and priorities, this individual must possess good project management skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Good interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to liaise with other EPCOR departments, customers, developers and consultants are requirements of the Technologist, Engineering.
