JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Technical Engineer/Officer, with positions available in Valves, Metallurgy and Welding, Piping and Components Analysis, Nuclear Plant Design and Analysis (Civil/ Structural, Mechanical), and Engineering Qualificaiton (EQ) departments.
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, these positions are responsible to perform engineering evaluations and assessments, support engineering design changes, and provide field technical support in accordance with the applicable nuclear industry codes and standards.
- Providing technical oversight of the work programs associated with respective department in operating and project/refurbishment state; Conducting field surveillance and monitoring of their programs; Participation in various cross-functional teams to address and solve complex problems.
- Preparing engineering solutions and presenting senior leadership at different forums to seek their endorsement will be required.
- Collaborating with both OPG’s internal teams and external organizations, including OPG’s Construction Engineering and Project Management teams, Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) vendors, and Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).
- Providing oversight on vendors’ engineering function as part of day-to-day responsibilities; Conducting procurement evaluations and active participation in various cross-functional teams to address and complex problems during design changes and procurement.
- Valves: Working with OPG’s Operation, Maintenance and Work Management teams to support the planning and execution of valve engineering programs; Troubleshooting and failure diagnostics in valves is desirable.
- Metallurgy and Welding: Leading and supporting the execution of Metallurgy & Welding activities at nuclear facilities, including New Build, Pickering Nuclear, Darlington Nuclear, Darlington Nuclear Refurbishment, Pickering Nuclear Refurbishment, Darlington New Nuclear Projects, and Nuclear Sustainability Services; Working on Design Change, Project Management, Work Management, and Field Work related tasks as they relate to welding operations; Overseeing welding program self-assessments, Centre of Excellence initiatives, Fleetview, and welding program document reviews; Working with vendor partners, welders, project teams, and maintenance supervisors to provide complex Special Welding Instructions, as well as to review welding packages and Inspection and Test Plans.
- Piping and Components Analysis: Providing oversight to OPG’s pressure test program as per CSA 287.7; Performing piping and component stress analysis.
- Nuclear Plant Design and Analysis (Civil/Structural): Maintaining and providing oversight of OPG’s Civil Periodic Inspection Plan (PIP) programs; Working with OPG’s Construction Engineering and Project Management teams to support the execution and restart phases of the project.
- EQ: Maintaining and providing oversight of OPG’s Environmental Qualification (EQ) program.
- 4 year-engineering degree (advanced degrees may be an asset for some positions).
- Minimum 2 years related engineering experience is required.
- Experience working in the Nuclear or Power Generation industry is an asset.
- Valves: Experience with Valves or Valve calculation, Valve design exp, valve troubleshooting, KVAP, Votes infinity diagnostics system, Quicklook diagnostics system.
- Metallurgy and Welding: Welding Engineering experience including knowledge of knowledge of codes and standards, such as Canadian Standards Association (CSA), American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) requirements; Experience providing complex Special Welding Instructions, as well as to review welding packages and Inspection and Test Plans; Experience working on Design Change, Project Management, Work Management, and Field Work related tasks as they relate to welding operations.
- Piping and Components Analysis: Piping and component stress analysis required; Experience with pressure testing in according with CSA 287.7 standard.
- Plant Design and Analysis (Civil/ Structural): Civil/Structural Design and analysis of large scale structures; Detailed knowledge of CSA A23.3, A23.1, A23.2 and A23.3, CSA S16, National Building code of Canada NBC, Nuclear Civil Structural and Seismic codes. Civil/Structural engineering in a power generation or commercial setting on large scale civil structures is an asset. Experience with in concrete aging and condition assessments and inspections is an asset; Experience in finite element analysis would be an asset; Experience in structural engineering applications and computer programs an asset.
- Engineering Qualification (EQ): EQ CSA N290.13, IEEE 323, EQ List Development (EQLDP), EQ Assessment (EQA).
- Experience with ECC Engineering Change Control processes and/or OPG’s ECC process would be an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and complex problem solving skills.
- Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario.
- P.Eng. designation is an asset.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
