JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professionals to join our team in the role of Senior Design Engineer who will provide (Design Engineering Support - Civil, Mechanical and Electrical I&C) and Engineering Project Management Support within the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station Design division.
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Design Engineers (Civil, Mechanical and Electrical I&C) and Engineering Project Management professionals will provide Design Engineering and Project Management support, in collaboration with internal departments, vendors and external organizations to ensure successful project delivery.
- Collaboration with OPG’s internal teams (such as Performance Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Work Control), external organizations, and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.
- Providing oversight of design service providers, nuclear mechanical design, preparation and review of stress and hydraulic analyses (Mechanical Design Engineering), preparation of technical specifications, design requirements, modification packages, and design calculations, as well as review of design reports as part of day-to-day duties.
- Applying strong civil engineering fundamentals (Civil Design Engineering) to provide technical evaluation and advice, solve problems, and coordinate technical work as required to support Darlington Station.
- Applying strong electrical and I&C engineering fundamentals and principles (Electrical – I&C Design Engineering) to solve emergent and complex problems in support of the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station.
- Leading engineering projects from initiation to closeout (Minor Projects Design), ensuring all objectives and commitments are met within established timelines; Administering and managing day-to-day project activities and promptly resolving field issues and challenges; Working closely with Project Controls to develop budgets, forecasts, and manage overall project costs.
- Collaborating with internal departments (such as Performance Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Work Control) to ensure successful project delivery.
- Applying Engineering Change Control (ECC) processes to prepare design packages with quality.
- Providing oversight of external Engineering vendors to ensure that all aspects of the ECC process are followed.
- 4 year-engineering degree (advanced degrees may be an asset for some positions).
- Minimum 2 years related engineering experience is required (some positions require a minimum of 4 years engineering experience).
- Experience working in the Nuclear or Power Generation industry is an asset.
- Minor Projects: Strong Project Management fundamentals; Experience working with external Engineering and EPC vendors for execution planning and installation; Experience leading engineering projects from initiation to closeout; Working with Project Controls to develop budgets, forecasts, and manage overall project costs; Experience managing construction projects is highly desired.
- Civil Design: Knowledge of civil related codes and standards such as NBC, OBC, CSA codes associated with steel and concrete structures, OHSA, corporate safety requirements, contractor safety and work protection code.
- Mechanical Design: knowledge of design codes and standards such as ASME Section III, Section VIII, B31.1, B31.3, CSA N285, CSA N299, and CSA B51.
- Electrical – I&C Design: strong electrical and I&C engineering fundamentals and principles; ability to solve emergent and complex problems in support of the Darlington NGS.
- Experience with ECC Engineering Change Control processes and/or OPG’s ECC process would be an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and complex problem solving skills.
- Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario.
- P.Eng. designation is an asset

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
