Reporting to the Manager, Design-Build, the Team Lead – Calgary Design-Build is responsible for leading a team of project management, design, and reporting professionals delivering turnkey underground and overhead electrical distribution (4 kV to 25 kV) and street lighting projects.
- Foster a strong safety culture and high ethical standards across the Design-Build team.
- Provide hands-on leadership, mentorship, and coaching across project delivery, reporting, financials, and professional development.
- Deliver multiple concurrent turnkey projects on time and budget—from engineering through construction to energization—while maintaining quality.
- Prepare takeoffs, estimates, and proposals, including engineering, material procurement, construction, and closeout.
- Attend off-site meetings, site visits, and field inspections in Calgary and surrounding areas.
- Coordinate with clients, municipalities, utilities, and other stakeholders for seamless execution.
- Manage and report on schedules, budgets, costs, risks, and communications.
- Proactively consult with clients to develop solutions aligned to their needs and communicate to mitigate risks and align expectations.
- Support project acquisition and customer relationship development.
- Provide peer mentoring and training; promote knowledge sharing.
- Lead employee engagement and foster strong client and team relationships.
- Manage escalations and issue resolution as required.
- Support recruitment to build a high-performing team.
- Conduct EPDPs for direct reports; review/approve expenses, vacation requests, and timesheets.
- Oversee invoicing, AR, and financial tracking; manage WIP and change order processes.
- Identify market opportunities and actively solicit new work.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Design-Build Manager.
- 5–7 years’ relevant experience in project management, senior-level design-build, or senior-level electrical utility design.
- Diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering Technology, or a degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering.
- 3+ years of estimating experience, including estimating system development.- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven collaboration with multidisciplinary teams (drafting, construction, survey, civil).
- Strong organization and time management with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; passion for excellence.
- Eng., P.L.(Eng.), or equivalent.
- Project management education: PMP (PMI).
- Proficiency with Power BI and database systems.
- Strong commitment to safety and ethical work practices.
- Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands within schedule and budget constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective business relationships and team collaboration.
- Ability to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to keep projects on time, on budget, and compliant.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
