This position is based on site at the NWR Sturgeon Refinery working a 9/80 schedule.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager – Information Systems, the Administrator – Systems/Network is part of the IS Operations support team providing high quality services and technical support to NWR physical servers, virtual infrastructure, remote access infrastructure, storage, backups and datacenter. The Administrator – System / Network also helps to maintain the organizations technical cyber security controls. The Administrator – Systems/Network ensures the regular maintenance, patch updates, redundancy tests and monitoring processes are performed in a timely and professional manner. The Administrator – Systems/Network will work closely with the Client & Site Services group to address a variety of cases. The Administrator – Systems/Network is a key member of the Information Systems group within Technical Services.
This position supports the safe and efficient operation of our refinery, which runs 24/7. As such, this role may require on-call duties or occasional requirements to respond operational business needs outside of regular working hours.” Responsibilities:
- Provides technical support for all server infrastructure components (hardware, software, OS, firmware, network); proactively monitors, addresses and tracks to resolution any incidents logged or escalated to the IS operation queue in the NWR’s service desk ticketing system;
- Performs incident root cause analysis and identifies workarounds or fixes; follows the NWR’s ITIL processes;
- Recommends solutions that will enhance Information Systems or business processes as part of the NWR’s continuous improvement strategy; installs servers and related application server software, upgrades, security or functional patches as well as moves and configuration changes;
- Provides timely escalation of incident to 3rd party vendor support organizations where applicable; maintains and updates physical and virtual server’s asset inventory;
- Assists in the implementation and maintenance of NWR’s Cybersecurity controls and posture;
- Creates and maintains IS Operation Run Books and ensures consistent time tracking in NWR’s timesheet system;
- All other duties as assigned.

- Post-secondary degree or technical diploma;
- Enjoys working with a team as well as having the ability to work as an individual contributor;
- Good verbal and written skills; ability to execute Instructions in a timely manner;
- The ability to lift/carry/move weights up to 50lbs to assist with the installation and transportation of infrastructure equipment is required;
- Available for off-hours work during key deliverable timeframes (move, user migration); provide coverage for Client Service queue overages;
- Be willing to learn and provide support for our network infrastructure;
- Must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license or equivalent;
- Oracle Database knowledge is an asset;
