Position Title: Substation Tech – A Class

The Substation Tech – A Class primary duty is to Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, substation equipment, structures, and fixtures. Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes. May install or service steel or wood structures, concrete, or electrical control systems.
Roles and Responsibilities:
•Read blueprints or technical diagrams.
•Install and maintain wiring, control, and lighting systems.
•Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or Substation structures.
•Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
•Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications
•Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
•Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
•Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
•Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools.
•Measure materials or objects for installation or assembly.
•Cut metal components for installation.
•Install Structure components such as Switches, Pt’s, Ct’s, etc…
•Inspect electrical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers.
•Identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices.
•Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
•Follow state and local building regulations based on the National Electric Code
•Knowledge and ability to properly identify, test and apply grounds to circuits.
•Obtain Certified Crane Operators card & A-CDL.
•Ability to install and adjust GOAB, MOAB and hook switches.
•Ability to correctly layout, form and pour concrete piers and pads.
•Knowledge of layout and installation of Substation Ground grid.
•Knowledge of correct installation of high voltage terminations.
•Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair substation structures and equipment.
•Install & Bend Rigid Conduit.
•The ability to lead the crew in a safe and productive manner in accordance with company and customer standards.
•Other duties as assigned such as ability to safely operate equipment such as skid steer, forklift, and mini-x.
•Must be able to stand for long periods, walk regularly, and lift to 100lbs. Must possess manual dexterity consistent with general construction and electrical line work.

•Requires good mechanical and electrical aptitude, communication skills and electricity training helpful.
Experience and Education:
•High School Diploma or equivalent and/or Apprenticeship preferred but not required.
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
•Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver License is required.
•Must have a Valid Class A CDL and current medical examiner card
•Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
•Successful completion of appropriate knowledge and skills examinations.
•Compliance with Safety Performance Standards. May be Employee Performance Tested to a higher level with testing and verifiable 3-4 years of Experience.
•Must be able to work outdoors in diverse terrain and in all weather conditions.
•Physical capabilities required to safely operate a motor vehicle and equipment, in all driving conditions. Possesses sight, strength, and coordination
•Must have ability for frequent travel on needed training requirements and potential for overtime including storm work
