Job Summary
Lee Electrical Construction is hiring a Substation General Foreman to lead field crews in the construction and maintenance of electrical substations (overhead and underground systems). In this role, you will plan and direct daily work, promote and enforce a strong safety culture, coordinate schedule/materials/equipment, and deliver quality work that meets scope, specifications, and customer expectations. This position requires strong leadership, the ability to read and interpret civil/structural/electrical drawings, and a willingness to travel and stay out of town as needed.
- Promote, enforce, and model Lee Electrical Construction’s safety rules, requirements, and safety goals.
- Identify and control electrical hazards associated with transmission and distribution voltages in substation work.
- Partner with the Safety Department to report and support investigation of incidents and near misses.
- Provide on-site leadership and supervision for substation construction and maintenance activities.
- Plan and coordinate daily and weekly work (labor, equipment, materials, and tooling) to meet schedule and productivity targets.
- Review and interpret civil, structural, and electrical drawings (one-line, three-line, schematics) and installation manuals to direct work.
- Maintain clear communication with crew members, contractors, customers, and company leadership.
- Conduct frequent site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and compliance with scope and specifications.
- Manage craft productivity and the efficient use of materials and equipment.
- Support project cost control and scheduling; identify risks/issues early and elevate as needed.
- Complete daily reporting, including photos and documentation of progress, changes, and decisions.
- Use short-interval planning tools (e.g., 3-week look-ahead) to forecast upcoming work and constraints.
- Train, mentor, and coach crew members on job tasks and safe work practices.
- Maintain a neat, organized, and safe jobsite at the end of each shift and upon completion.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED (line school certificate acceptable).
- Minimum age 18 and valid driver’s license; ability to travel and stay out of town as required.
- Journeyman certification or equivalent substation construction experience.
- Working knowledge of substation power system components (breakers, switches, bus, CTs/VTs, grounding) and associated protection/communications systems.
- Ability to read and interpret civil/structural/electrical drawings (one-line, three-line, schematics) and follow installation manuals/specifications.
- Demonstrated crew leadership experience (mentoring, coaching, clear jobsite communication).
- Strong organization and time management skills; ability to plan daily/weekly work and complete field documentation (daily reports/photos).
- Class A CDL or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe.
- Proficiency operating/working around common construction equipment (skid steers, man lifts, boom trucks, forklifts, backhoes, trenchers) in accordance with safety requirements.
