The Student Intern – Historical Archiving will help bridge the gap between WSSC Water’s past and it’s future. The Student Intern will work directly with historical records, physical artifacts, and sensitive documents to ensure their long-term survival and accessibility.
1. Archival Processing and Cataloging: Inventory Management (sort, arrange, and describe unprocessed physical collections); Data Entry (create and update digital finding aids and metadata records to improve searchability); Physical Rehousing (research/advise on best storage methods for fragile documents and artifacts).
2. Digitization Support: Identify high-priority items for digital scanning based on physical fragility or historical significance; review previously digitized records for format, accessibility, and searchability.
3. Preservation Research & Advising: review current storage methods and advise on improvements/changes needed. Create a recommendation for the ongoing preservation of historical items.
