FABCO is a full-service steel fabricator, looking for a Structural Steel Quality & Safety Technician to join our fast-growing team in Woodburn, Oregon. Our state-of-the-art facility, combined with our highly skilled team and technological capabilities, allows us to perform a wide range of projects, from small to large.
The Structural Steel Quality & Safety Technician plays a critical dual role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of all fabricated steel products while supporting and reinforcing companywide safety programs. This position conducts inspections, audits, and safety assessments; coordinates quality and safety documentation; and works closely with production teams, leadership, and customers to resolve issues and maintain high standards.
- Perform ongoing inspections and dimensional checks on fabricated steel components to ensure compliance with drawings, codes, and industry standards.
- Inspect welding preparations, tack welds, welds, fit‑ups, and finished assemblies; document and report non‑conformances.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis on defective products and present corrective actions to production leadership.
- Calibrate, maintain, and properly use inspection and measurement tools.
- Maintain and retain all required QC documentation, ensuring compliance with internal and customer standards.
- Assist in customer and third‑party inspections as needed.
- Interpret blueprints, specifications, codes, and geometric tolerancing standards associated with steel fabrication.
- Conduct regular site and shop safety inspections to identify hazardous conditions, unsafe practices, and non‑conformance with company safety standards.
- Coordinate and support all safety efforts across production and field activities, including planning for upcoming work and risk mitigation.
- Lead incident and accident investigations and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
- Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and training to employees and subcontractors.
- Support development, implementation, and improvement of company safety programs and policies.
- Work with safety committees and management to ensure effective communication and adherence to safety initiatives.
- Verify subcontractor compliance with company and industry safety requirements.- 5–10+ years’ experience in structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, or quality control.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, structural steel standards, and fabrication techniques.
- OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to interpret blueprints, codes, specifications, and geometric tolerancing requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to be assertive, detail‑oriented, and steadfast in enforcing quality and safety expectations.
- Proficiency with documentation, reporting, and inspection recordkeeping
- Internal auditing or corrective‑action experience.
- Knowledge of metallurgy or weld procedure qualification processes.
- Experience with safety program administration.
