Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Storm Field Safety Manager II to support contractors and utilities during storm response by providing on-site safety oversight, planning support, and real-time guidance to help crews safely execute emergency restoration work. Serving in an on-call capacity, the role requires the ability to mobilize quickly and travel to storm-affected areas for deployments ranging from a few days to several weeks. Storm Field Safety Managers do not perform physical construction work; instead, they assist with job planning, hazard identification, compliance with utility and regulatory safety requirements, and effective communication between crews and supervision. The position plays a critical role in promoting safe work practices, managing risk during extended hours and dynamic conditions, and reinforcing a strong safety culture throughout the storm restoration effort.
Candidate must be located near work sites in the northeastern region of the United States (New York, Maine, Massachusetts, etc.)

- Serve as a dedicated field safety liaison supporting contractor crews and utility representatives during storm restoration activities
- Provide pre-task and daily safety planning support, including job briefings, tailboards, and hazard identification for storm-related work
- Assist crews in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating hazards associated with emergency restoration, damaged infrastructure, changing weather, and extended work hours
- Verify compliance with utility safety standards, contractor safety programs, OSHA regulations, and storm-response requirements
- Observe field activities and provide real-time coaching and corrective guidance to promote safe work practices without directing or performing the work
- Support implementation of energized work controls, switching procedures, grounding practices, and minimum approach distances as applicable
- Assist with fatigue management, work-rest cycles, and situational awareness during extended shifts and high-pressure restoration efforts
- Facilitate communication between crews, contractors, and utility supervision regarding safety concerns, changing site conditions, or near-miss events
- Document safety observations, near misses, and incidents; support incident reporting and root-cause review as required by the utility or contractor
- Verify proper use of PPE, tools, equipment, and vehicles in accordance with approved safety requirements
- Support onboarding and storm-specific safety orientations for incoming crews and mutual-assistance resources
- Promote a strong safety culture during storm response while maintaining respect for contractor authority and work methods
- Escalate unsafe conditions or behaviors to appropriate supervision when immediate corrective action is required
- Maintain accurate daily safety logs and field reports for utility or client review
- No formal education requirements. This role is best suited for individuals seeking part-time, on-call work who bring strong field experience, situational awareness, and the right mindset rather than academic credentials.
- Safety certifications (such as CUSP or equivalent) are a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated background in overhead and/or underground electric line work, either as a journeyman/apprentice lineman or in a dedicated safety role supporting line crews.
- Hands-on experience with distribution and transmission systems is required; familiarity with storm restoration environments and emergency response is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to be present in the field, actively engaging with crews and site leadership, this is not a role for individuals who prefer to remain in a truck or office.
- Strong working knowledge of job planning, hazard identification, energized work controls, and safe work practices associated with line construction and restoration activities.
- Ability to think forward-looking and proactively, assisting crews and leadership in planning work safely under dynamic and rapidly changing conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team environment, communicating clearly, respectfully, and constructively with craft personnel, supervision, and utility representatives.
