Summary: Supervises night shift workers engaged in the preparation of various steel and plastics, steel castings, pieces, piece part and assemblies for fabrication, by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Supervises the daily cutting, forming, beveling, machining and painting production of steel, to meet production schedules as directed by the Plant Manager and shop orders process by the Engineering Department.
Evaluates part programs and full sheet nestings and works with programmer to assure part and plate accuracy and quality are correct.
Coordinates receipt of parts or material required to meet production goals.
Explains company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations and ensures quality standards.
Studies production schedules, evaluates status of jobs in progress, and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
Assigns duties which match skill levels, part availability, production levels, and produce quality products.
Recommends measures and enforces standards to produce a quality product on time.
Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers.
Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
Reports and proposes innovations or solutions for steel preparation problems to Engineering.
Documents and notifies workers of disciplinary actions according to company policy and procedures.
Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
Reports machine and equipment malfunctions to Maintenance according to procedures.
Assigns hours to applicable shop order for accurate billing.
Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
Complies with all applicable safety guidelines at all times by correcting hazards, informing supervisor, or recommending guidance to co-worker(s), to avoid injury or damage to employees or equipment.

Must have high school diploma or GED and at least 4 years experience in metal fabrication shop performing all types of welding, cutting and bending operations, with working knowledge of CNC mechanized plasma cutting and cnc controlled press brake bending, and have broad knowledge of steel fabrication processes; or degree from a technical school in an applicable fabrication trade plus two to three year’s experience in a fabrication shop; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
