The Baconton Power Station, located in Baconton, Georgia, is situated in the rural landscape of Mitchell County. The facility features four GE LM6000 gas turbine operating in a simple cycle configuration, capable of producing up to 192 megawatts of electricity. Designed for fast-start capability, the plant plays a vital role in enhancing regional grid stability and meeting peak electricity demand.

Opportunity Summary

The Shift Supervisor at Baconton Power Station plays a critical role in overseeing all station operations, including startup and shutdown of key plant components, while performing Control Room Operator duties to ensure safe and efficient plant performance. This position leads safety compliance, maintenance planning, and accurate documentation of operations and maintenance activities, utilizing the CMMS to support equipment reliability. Additionally, the Shift Supervisor mentors and develops operations personnel, assists in staffing, and collaborates closely with the Plant Manager and various departments to maintain seamless plant management and external stakeholder relations.

Your scope of responsibility as Shift Supervisor will include the following primary functions:

- Provide oversight and direct supervision of all station operations, including the startup and shutdown of main plant components and auxiliaries, and perform the duties of Control Room Operator.

- Ensure that all site safety requirements and procedures are properly implemented and consistently observed, address safety hazards, and conduct periodic plant tours to inspect equipment and ensure compliance with safety rules.

- Serve as the lead system representative for assigned systems and maintain the accuracy of shift operating logs and reports, including downtime, outages, repair requirements, and production and performance indices.

- Monitor daily consumption rates of chemicals, gases, fuels, water, and other consumables; manage inventories and ensure proper replenishment.

- Review routine chemical testing results, direct corrective actions, and coordinate electrical and mechanical inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks under the direction of the Maintenance Manager.

- Ensure proper in-plant switching and tagging of equipment according to approved procedures and industry best practices.

- Plan, direct, and supervise both preventive and corrective maintenance on all systems and equipment, ensuring work quality, equipment reliability, and accurate documentation of all maintenance activities and equipment status in the CMMS.

- Write, review, and revise operating procedures, ensuring compliance in plant operations, maintenance, and personnel management.

- Assist in the orientation, training, and development of O&M Technicians, and prepare training materials, including lesson plans, handouts, visual aids, exams, and qualification standards.

- Assist with recruiting, screening, interviewing, and selecting candidates for employment or promotion within the area of responsibility, and maintain logs, records, and reports related to power and steam production.

- Provide advice and counsel to the Plant Manager regarding technical and administrative aspects of shift operations and communicate with personnel on-site and at other locations.

- Support the Plant Manager with department administration and power plant management; provide feedback to employees, ensuring compliance with plant procedures.

- Represent the company in dealings with the public, steam and power customers, vendors, contractors, regulators, and other external parties, while supporting the Administration, Engineering, and Maintenance departments.

- Perform other duties as assigned by plant management.

- Conduct and support regular safety meetings (at least monthly).

- Address safety in all group meetings.

- Conduct inspections and observations by establishing a regular inspection process for the work area and a safety observation process for ongoing work.

- Lead these activities in accordance with any rules, requirements, or guidance established within your business unit, group, or division.

- Involve all NAES teammates in these activities.

- Analyze results, write work orders, and provide training and education to eliminate hazards, address at-risk behavior, and meet company regulatory requirements.

- Conduct safety observation tours of high-risk activities (e.g., confined space) to verify that employees are following safe practices, company procedures, and OSHA regulations.

- Hold one-on-one sessions with direct reports to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations, and coach safe behaviors.

- Respond to all safety-related incidents, including injuries, incidents, and near misses; write a report explaining what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective actions based on established business unit or division practices. Follow up as necessary to ensure corrective actions are taken.

Working Relationships

The Shift Supervisor reports directly to the Plant Manager and is responsible for leading plant personnel to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant and all associated processes.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

This position follows a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, alternating between day shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and evening shifts from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required.

Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.

Compensation

This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $40 to $45 per hour.

Professional Expertise & Qualifications

We are looking for a results-oriented supervisor with experience in the operations and maintenance of power generating facilities, coupled with a track record of leadership, career development, and operational success.

- Associate degree in engineering or a technical field such as power plant technology, or equivalent, is desired, as it provides a strong foundation for understanding the technical aspects of power plant operations and management. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis.

- Demonstrated leadership in directing plant operations with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and team coordination; experience in roles such as Shift Supervisor or equivalent within the power generation industry is preferred, with particular value placed on experience with simple cycle gas turbine systems, especially the GE LM6000.

- Proven track record as a Control Room Operator (CRO), skilled in real-time monitoring, responding to alarms, and maintaining operational reliability; CRO qualification preferred.

- Strong knowledge of power plant systems, including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control components, with a deep understanding of safety procedures, regulatory compliance, and emergency response.

- Proficient in troubleshooting and maintaining plant equipment such as valves, switches, motors, pumps, and the gas turbine generator package; experienced in chemical handling, condition monitoring systems, and utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track and document maintenance activities.

- Skilled in interpreting technical documentation, including mechanical and electrical drawings, P&IDs, and single-line diagrams.

- Proficient in writing, reviewing, and revising operating procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and operational best practices.

- Excellent communication skills to conduct plant tours, provide direction to employees, report status to management, and collaborate with various departments and stakeholders.

- Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
