Sr. Systems Administrator - Houston, TX

OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced and solutions-oriented Senior Systems Administrator to join our IT Operations team. This is a hands-on, Tier-3 role focused on supporting and optimizing a modern enterprise environment built on the Microsoft stack and VMware VCF infrastructure. You'll work alongside a high-performing team of administrators to maintain the health, scalability, and security of our core systems.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Minimally supervise level 1 and level 2 systems administrators on team projects and daily management of systems. Mentor level 1 and level 2 systems administrators.

EDUCATION

Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field of study. In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, will consider equivalent relevant work experience and/or education.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

- 8+ years of experience in enterprise systems administration, with increasing responsibility - Deep expertise in Windows Server (2016+), Active Directory, Group Policy, and DNS/DHCP

- Strong working knowledge of VMware vSphere, including vCenter, VMotion, snapshots, and clustering

- Experience supporting Virtual Desktop environments (Omnissa Horizon preferred)

- Experience supporting Exchange Online/Hybrid and M365 environments

- Hands-on with SCCM/MECM, Intune, and endpoint lifecycle management

- Familiarity with Dell and Pure Storage systems, enterprise backup tools (e.g., Commvault or Cohesity)

- Comfortable with PowerShell scripting for task automation and administration

- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and team collaboration skills

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Serve as the escalation point for complex technical issues involving Windows Server, VMware, Exchange, and endpoint management platforms

- Support and manage hybrid Exchange environments (Online & On-Prem), including mail flow, DAGs, and M365 integration

- Administer and optimize VMware vSphere, including host lifecycle, VM provisioning, HA/DRS, and vSAN

- Use SCCM/MECM and Intune for image deployment, application management, patching, and compliance

- Monitor system health and performance using SCOM and/or vRealize Operations

- Automate repetitive tasks and reporting using PowerShell or other scripting tools

- Participate in architecture discussions, upgrades, and infrastructure projects across datacenter and cloud platforms

- Mentor level 1 and level 2 administrators and contribute to documentation, SOPs, and internal knowledge base

- Work cross-functionally with security, networking, and application teams on shared initiatives

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical systems documentation.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic mathematical and algebraic equations required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to operating plants, construction sites or other office complexes. This requires the ability to stand, walk, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to operating plants, construction sites or other office complexes. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noises, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
